The writing was a sewage. The struggles of a pale skinned Negro living as a white is the key message. This is repeatedly pointed out too frequently verbatim instead of skillfully building the tension.

Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love - all forgotten overnight. The story is well read. But I didn’t find the plot that great. A bit plodding in the way the story unfolds. And I wasn’t surprised by the ending. Had been guessing it for a long time.

Story
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

The struggles on the home front for women, citizens of foreign ancestry and blacks is abortion of the story I have not previously understood. The changes is well described and explained from women in the workforce to large government and income taxes to the shockingly inept system to help returning vets with jobs homes and ptsd.
Well crafted. A must read for all generations.

Story
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

When I first read the summary I could not understand how a story about a grumpy loner would be very good. But I was soon won over.
I love this book. I love Ove. This gruff man who thinks he doesn't like people actually has an oversized heart and commits amazing acts of kindness and generosity in between his gruff comments.
I was so disappointed when the book ended. I wanted it to go on!
And, very well read.

Story
Luis de Santngel, chancellor to the court and longtime friend of the lusty King Ferdinand, has had enough of the Spanish Inquisition. As the power of Inquisitor General Toms de Torquemada grows, so does the brutality of the Spanish church and the suspicion and paranoia it inspires. When a dear friend’s demise brings the violence close to home, Santngel is enraged and takes retribution into his own hands. But he is from a family of conversos, and his Jewish heritage makes him an easy target.

Story
What does it mean when the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence is your father and also your slave master? Beverly, Harriet, Madison, and Eston are Thomas Jefferson’s children, but their mother is a slave, so they must keep their father’s identity secret. They get special treatment - better work, better shoes, even violin lessons - but they are still slaves. Their father has promised to set them all free when each turns 21. Some of them are light-skinned enough that they will be able to enter white society - and thereby turn their backs on home forever.

Story
In the early summer of 2014, Farida Khalaf was a typical Yazidi teenager living with her parents and three brothers in her village in the mountains of Northern Iraq. In one horrific day, she lost everything: ISIS invaded her village, destroyed her family, and sold her into sexual slavery. The Girl Who Escaped ISIS is her incredible account of captivity and describes how she defied the odds and escaped a life of torture in order to share her story with the world.

Susan Sarandon's narration was excellent. The story, however, was slow. The musings of a young teenage girl overwhelmed and confused by life. But very little happens. I only finished listening because I am away from WiFi sufficient enough to download a new book.
