The writing was a sewage. The struggles of a pale skinned Negro living as a white is the key message. This is repeatedly pointed out too frequently verbatim instead of skillfully building the tension.

Brilliant and inspiring discussion of music. Dialogue. And humanity. Yo-Yo Ma has long been one of my favorite musicians. But he has now become one if my favorite human beings.

Yo-Yo, thank you for sharing your personal story with vulnerability and insight for us all.

I really didn’t know much about Truman. McCullough (as always) did a fabulous job of showing us the man, his character, his challenges and successes. A great read.

The story is well read. But I didn’t find the plot that great. A bit plodding in the way the story unfolds. And I wasn’t surprised by the ending. Had been guessing it for a long time.

The struggles on the home front for women, citizens of foreign ancestry and blacks is abortion of the story I have not previously understood. The changes is well described and explained from women in the workforce to large government and income taxes to the shockingly inept system to help returning vets with jobs homes and ptsd.

Well crafted. A must read for all generations.

When I first read the summary I could not understand how a story about a grumpy loner would be very good. But I was soon won over.

I love this book. I love Ove. This gruff man who thinks he doesn't like people actually has an oversized heart and commits amazing acts of kindness and generosity in between his gruff comments.

I was so disappointed when the book ended. I wanted it to go on!

And, very well read.

I've tried to finish this book but the reading makes it dull. The readers my is not smooth and conversational. I want a storyteller to enthrall me with a tale. Bit this reader is more like a nervous amateur reader.

I've bought the book on kindle and will read it myself.

Although the story is based on historical facts the dialogue and development feel forced.

I was looking forward to the story because u really like historical fiction. But I was disappointed in the story telling quality of the narrative.

The story is well told by the coauthors. I now fee so much empathy for all refugees and especially for the victims of trafficking.

A must read in this modern day of centuries old cruelty and prejudices.

Susan Sarandon's narration was excellent. The story, however, was slow. The musings of a young teenage girl overwhelmed and confused by life. But very little happens. I only finished listening because I am away from WiFi sufficient enough to download a new book.
