Story
New York Times best-selling author James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels began with this first hard-hitting entry in the series. In The Neon Rain, Detective Robicheaux fishes a prostitute's corpse from a New Orleans bayou and finds that no one, not even the law, cares about a dead hooker.

Narration takes away from book
Reviewed: 09-02-23
Characters are portrayed as New Orleanians, but their enunciation is not that of a native. Lafource -NOLA style = Lafoosh
Metairie - NOLA style = Met-tre
These are just two of the mispronounce words out of many throughout the book.
To the non native it may be fine, but to a Jefferson or Orleans Parish person it is finger nails on a chalk board.

A bit verbose
Reviewed: 06-12-23
A bit verbose; no it was circumlocutory. Would have been much better had they employed a male for the men within the story. Most people can’t control their voice for that many chapters. I would imagine Ms Rodgers would agree.

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I doubt it.

I get rather bored when they explain the weapons used during action. To a non Seal reader-which are probably most readers- it laborious and boring to listen to every thing but the serial number of the weapon. To most readers, a gun is a gun with or without a suppressor. I don’t need to know all the numbers and other distinctions - just it’s an Uzi, Kalashnikov, AK, etc..
Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I doubt it.

Story
The nearly half-million American air crewmen who served during World War II have almost disappeared. And so have their stories. Award-winning writer and former fighter pilot Jay A. Stout uses Unsung Eagles to save an exciting collection of those accounts from oblivion. These are not rehashed tales from the hoary icons of the war. Rather, they are stories from the masses of largely unrecognized men who - in the aggregate - actually won it.

I Hope They found him!
Reviewed: 08-09-22
I thought the book developed too slowly; it could have been tighten-up a bit. In fact, I couldn't finish the book. It was much too long and tedious. My boredom meter "pegged" at the 64th chapter. Hopefully, the found the President and the world was saved. That usually happens in Patterson books.
To add to the angst, the voices for the characters were distracting for me. The President's voice sounded like a Saturday morning children's superhero character. The supporting characters sounded like Russians, some east European country native, or a Drill Sargent who was a bad actor. The women's voices weren't even realistic. The Jewish Prime Minister wasn't credible at all.
I will say that the plot is good and certainly gave me pause as to what would I do should it really occur.
I understand that the book was a financial success, and I may be the only person who didn't like it. I hear their other novel is better so I will try it......I think.
