Story
In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history. In the midst of this crisis, the decision to launch a small wooden dory named “The Emerald Mile” at the head of the Grand Canyon, just fifteen miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam, seemed not just odd, but downright suicidal.

Riveting From Beginning to End
Reviewed: 04-06-25
Kevin Fedarko is not only a superb writer but also the best narrator for his own book. This book is so good, it would be hard to put down in paper form, but his narration is the cherry on top in this audio version. I've actually never been that interested in whitewater rafting/boating. It scares me. But I read A Walk in the Park earlier this past year and wanted more. I've hiked down into the Canyon three times, twice to the bottom - Phantom Ranch and into the Havasupai Village. But the River was still the Great Unknown to me. Now it's not. I want more. I just ordered There's This River that the author mentioned towards the end. This was such a story of passion and perseverance, and so much about Glen Canyon Dam! His background research just keeps you listening/reading on. Bravo Kevin Fedarko!

Story
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Best Book I've Read All Year!
Reviewed: 07-03-23
What a wonderful way the author has of weaving facts that she carefully researches with fiction that connects everything together so clearly. This story takes place in multiple timeframes across a century and a half, and not one time did I have to try to remember what was happening when or who was talking. That's a gift. Writing across generations seems to be a trend these days and sometimes other writers leave their readers scratching their heads. Not the case in Horse. I loved it. Owning horses myself made it that much more interesting and real. The narration was terrific. All in all, a best seller that deserves to be a best seller.

I've read a number of Moyes works, but this was all around the best one yet. I laughed, teared up, gasped and could hardly stop listening. The woman who performed it was stellar. It was probably even more fun listening to it as reading it. Don't miss this one.

Story
The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

Story
It's the Christmas season and veterinarian Kate Turner is not feeling very jolly. She's overworked, unappreciated, and dealing with two dissatisfied clients. Throw in a very complicated personal life and Kate's definitely got a case of the holiday blues. To make matters worse, Kate's ex-boyfriend, Jeremy, is mugged and robbed after they have a heated argument in the hospital parking lot. Then, two of her dissatisfied clients turn up dead (which really gets Kate's tinsel in a tangle). All of these events seem like coincidences, but they add up to something much more venomous.

Interesting story - Too Many Characters
Reviewed: 09-01-22
I did enjoy the first two books in this series. But this one just seemed to go on forever with too many suspects, too many clues that led to dead ends and too many other characters getting involved. One of the reasons I started the series was because she's a vet and I enjoyed hearing the details of some of her cases. She had a few in here but I would like to hear more. Fewer characters, more developed next time.

Having read almost every one of his books, I have always respected Connelly as one of the best writers out there, but this was over the top his best yet. I love the addition of Renee Ballard in the last few years and I think their chemistry really works. I have watched the whole Bosch series on Prime and am very glad Welliver is the voice of Harry in this series. Both narrators added a special level of believability. Great work all the way around.

I hope Grisham decides to continue this series. Lacy is an interesting character who seems to have been dragged kicking and screaming into big crime investigation. But I think after two large cases that were well out the scope of judicial impropriety, she decides to make it a career. Hope to hear more from her. Excellent narration.

Story
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.
