Story
Jane Austen wrote Love and Friendship (originally spelled Love and Freindship [ sic]) when she was just 14 years old. The three notebooks that contain her early works, including this story, are currently on display at the Bodleian Library and the British Museum. Taking the form as letters written by the heroine to the daughter of her friend, this story resembles a fairy tale that lampoons the conventions of romantic stories at the time.

A bit of a struggle

The narrator did everything they could, but it was not enjoyable to have so many character & plots. It felt very disjointed. I realize that this is a collection & not everything was finished. But as much as I love her other books, I cannot love this.

Excellent Narrator. A wonderful short story that captures the time period. The 1 word is always cringey to hear. But it was accurate to the time.

Story
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Story
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

I haven't read this book since I was a little girl, many years ago. I remember struggling with the language even then. However, this retelling made it about as tolerable as it would ever be when you keep in mind just how old this book is. Late 1800's. The fun & adventure that takes place thru a young teenage boy from those years of entertaining for sure! Definitely worth a listen.

Story
A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".

Sincerely. What is going on with the narrator??
Reviewed: 05-28-22
The book has always been a cotton candy read. & I liked it for that. However the narrator either brought out everything that is annoying & terrible about the heroine, to the point that you root against her. Or I've matured enough that the book is no longer enjoyable fluff. IDK, what they were thinking...
