Put me to sleep along with the sequel The Ruins
Reviewed: 02-03-25
I applaud the authors with keeping each character on point and not making noticeable mistakes. This reads more like a medieval soap opera than an actual post apocalyptic story. There are mentions of the infected, but the whole book appears to be a piece by piece telling of the daily lives of the villagers with a few mentions of run ins with the infected. I feel mislead a little and couldn't finish the diatribe of filler content. It drags on and on and on and on with nothing really noteworthy to keep you interested. There is a follow up book "The Ruins" which appears to be a continuation of the 40 hours with an additional 39 hours of the same thing. 2 credits down the tubes.

The beginning started out well. By the time the survivors were hold up in an office building, the whole story just went numb. Dissapointing because this book had a chance to be something, but didn't continue to keep any spark of excitement or action.

Story
Adrian Ring is broken. He was wounded badly, and with dead loved ones on all sides, he makes a bold, life-changing decision; he’s leaving Bastion and its people to help the unknown second Trinity in Europe, where a terrible strain of faster, smarter undead still rampage in the streets. Clinging to what’s left of his tattered soul, he must assemble a small team to bring across the Atlantic aboard one of the few still-operational US Navy frigates. The battle ahead is ominous enough, but the journey might kill him before he sets foot on European soil.

Readers beware - new narrator for books 12 to 15
Reviewed: 12-30-24
I have been a complete fan boy and binge listened to the first 11 books with absolute enjoyment. I have got so into some of the characters that I literally cried when they were killed off. I bought book 12 and was lost from word one. They changed narrators and completely screwed up the characters and flow of the story I have come to love. I couldn't even get past chapter 3 with the new guys voice because it feels like I don't know anyone now and it isn't the new narrators fault. You cannot change such a fundamental aspect of the cast 100+ hours into the series. It sucks that I lost a credit buying book 12, but it sucks even more that the story is over for me. I won't be buying the last 3 books in the series without the old narrator. James Anderson Foster gave life to the characters through 100+ hours of narration and without his voice, they are lost to me forever. Sorry, but the new narrator is not and never will be the cocky smart ass Adrian that exists in the first 11 books. The story will never be complete now.

I wish there was more. I just finished the last of it and already missing the characters that the author brought to life through this story. It's rare for me to get emotionally invested but the author and narrator infused so much life/detail into each of them that I couldn't help but feel like I was living along side them. This was a game changer for the EMP stories I have listened to so far and has set the bar pretty high . Thank you AJ for sharing this wonderous piece of your brain with us. I will forever remember the experience.

Story
Pixies are supposed to be petite, beautifully lithe creatures with gossamer wings. Sporting luscious, ombre pink hair and fluttering pink wings, Phil meets two out of three of those criteria. At over six feet tall, no one would dare call Phil petite. As a home-and-hearth pixie, Phil yearns to find a home and family he can bond to. When no one's willing to hire a pixie of his stature, Phil is forced to find work elsewhere. Turns out, pixies make terrible bouncers.

Werewolves only exist in fairy tales...at least, that's what most townspeople in Lunar's Reach believe. Unless you're a powerful healer who concocts a potion to help a fledgling shifter remain human during the full moon. It works to Bellamy's benefit since he's been in hiding at Moon Flower from Ashwood, his beloved, who betrayed him two years before. But now that violet fever is sweeping through Etria, and Bellamy has fallen deathly ill, not even the madam from the apothecary can heal him.
