Nice origin story to build the ethos

A little curve ball in the story line. I like the ÁI voice. The books still over uses assault rifle when referring to almost every long rifle.

Great storyline- Poor Narration

Dead America- Kansas surprised me with how appealing the storyline was. For those who like zombie-post apocalyptic threads this is a good one. HOWEVER, the AI reading of the story really does a number on dismantling the story. The AI voice misses a lot of reading/speaking ques, while at the same time, mispronouncing words. May I suggest Brian Hutchinson to re-read them.

regarding Virtual Voice

Trying to listen to this story, just one more time . . .it is interesting
BUT
While being clear and correct, the virtual voice just can't add the feeling and inflection needed that a good narrator can.
Maybe later, but not at this time, on this story.

Almost Ruins This Series at 108 Books In!

Okay so I read Ground Zero and the Dead Texas Series and I was hooked on Derek Slaton and Dead America. I bought every book knowing I would definitely not want to have to look up the next book in the series to keep going. I have been listening to these for over a year over 100 books. Basically every time I drive I listen which I was doing 500 miles per week so that's how I was able to read so many in that amount of time. I just finished Atticus on the Rails 6 book series and couldn't wait to start Kansas to see how that defector situation is resolved. I downloaded it to my phone and started Kansas: Book 1........ Immediately I was like what happened, they changed the narrator. Then I was like who is this monotone lifeless voice dictating the words to this story. After about 5 minutes I was like, "He mispronounced tons of words, missed inflections in almost every sentence". Then it hit me, f*ing AI..... Seriously??? I am paying for these books to be read to me by someone that at least understands what inflections to place and what speech actually is. I was a linguist in the Military and these things are necessary to being able to understand and enjoy listening to anything. This is ridiculous and I am feeling ripped off. I have paid nearly $300 just for Derek Slaton's books and have been happy with my purchases until Kansas. For the first time I'm not sure I can make it through the 6 books. I have also looked at the next books in the series and they are all "Virtual Voiced" Looks like I am done with his books until they can actually use a human again so I can actually enjoy the story. Story great, narration unlistenable - Yep new word just for this.

Dead America

Seemed a bit negative against men which caused a distraction in the story. Women could do no wrong blah bla bla

AI ruins the seemingly GREAT story!

The story itself is not just “another zombie apocalypse book“ but the Virtual Voice doesn’t do any feelings, emotions, voice/inflections or changes of gender between people, no excitement in its voice because it’s a MACHINE! It ruined everything!!
Normally, I don’t look at who is reading the books, with Audible I have (500+) but I will NEVER EVER WASTE MY $$$ on ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Narrators. Doesn’t matter who wrote it. Not doing this again. Audible needs to return my credit. I will do that for sure. What a WASTE - the storyline seemed pretty decent, but i can’t stand the lack of any different. changes in tone to the language/speech. Goodbye “VIRTUAL VOICE”!!👩🏻‍🎤

Incredible

I was drawn into the story within minutes, The journey the characters are taken through is encompassing and action packed. I wish there were more than 5 books to the Kansas storyline for sure. The author made this a great listen.

AI Narration, poorly written story.

Interesting enough premise, the protagonist's vocalized inner monologues took me out of it completely.
