Missing Graeme Malcolm.

My opinion is it is not a bad book, just not what I was anticipating. Sad to say it just did not feel like a Hamish Macbeth story. More of a spy/murderer story. I was disappointed but maybe because I have listened to all Hamish Macbeth stories and this just felt completely foreign to my expectations.
I’m sure the narrator would be considered good by people who weren’t such devoted fans to Graeme Malcolm. I was upset to read of his passing.
I ordered this months ago and was Looking forward to getting it. Sadly this will probably be my last Hamish book. Now that MC Beaton and Graeme Malcolm are gone, I think the world of Hamish is lost to me forever.

Story
Isabel accepts an invitation to serve on the advisory committee of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery but soon finds herself swept up in an all-too-familiar dilemma. David is the grandson of a Scottish clan chief and is supportive of Scottish nationalism. But his fervent beliefs are threatening family harmony, especially because his sister Catriona's socialist views put her at odds with her brother. When their mother, Laura, a fellow committee member, asks Isabel to intervene, she tries to demur. But Isabel can't help but intercede.

Very disappointed.

In my opinion, there was no real story line here. Just constant dialogue about philosophy. I was horribly disappointed! McCall Smith books always had great, well developed characters and an intertwined storyline that made you care about them. I forced myself to listen hoping for some kind of storyline! It just does not feel like an Alexander McCall Smith book. If I could return it I would.

Story
Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin star in these four gems. In "The Christmas Party", Wolfe condescends to uncharacteristic theatrics, which aren't enough to clear him from suspicion of murder. The "Easter Parade" tempts Wolfe to commit larceny for an orchid. "A Fourth of July Picnic" has Wolfe scheduled for to appear as an orator. But his day in the sun is rained out by murder. The last selection, "Murder Is No Joke", is a whodunit in a couturier's salon, where a murderer is dressed to kill and kill again.

Story
If you were one of King Henry VIII's six wives, who would you be? Would you be Anne Boleyn, who literally lost her head? Would you be the subject of rumor and scandal like Catherine Howard? Or would you get away and survive like Anna of Cleves? Meet them and Henry's other queens - each bound for divorce or death - in this epic and thrilling novel that reads like fantasy but really happened.

I loved it

Disappointing to me.
Reviewed: 02-18-21
I, personally, was very disappointed with the book. It wasn't the narrators, they were fine, it was the stories themselves! I found it hard to follow, most of it was death bed memories that shuffled too quickly back and forth in time! Should have returned it immediately but I hoped it would get better. Surprisingly, I found Katherine, Henry’s fifth wife the most upbeat of all the stories. Mad at myself for wasting a credit!
