Story
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Must admit, the author goes to great extends to tell you that this isn’t one of those “productivity” self-help books without giving you any supporting arguments only to start the second half of the book which is all about how he knows better about saving time than you do so you should do as he says. I wouldn’t have even stopped halfway through if it wasn’t for the first few chapters that denounces “productivity hacks” which resonated with me. This book is a clickbait at best.

A welcome change for egoists

I’m glad my gf bought this audiobook, given how deeply I had immersed myself into Ryan Holiday and Dale Carnegie-type books, I’d have never come across this otherwise. It’s a masterpiece that portrays all kinds of desires in its raw and extremist forms. It is truer to life than any self-help book that aspires to be. I hadn’t realized how sick I had become of authors that preach moderation in hopes of reaching out to all people until I finished listening to this. A must read if you have been suppressing your selfish creativity in hopes of relevance.

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Had to skip the last two chapters because it was intolerably slow

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as those people who have reviewed it so generously. I found it to be very slow and too repetitive, though I know it’s not a fiction but I think this book isn’t for those who want to draw ready-made conclusions on what makes people endure harsh realities, rather it’s telling the story and letting the audience find their own thoughts and conclusions. In my case, it didn’t help.

This book is what every person who wants to bring a positive change to their life needs. The contents are very clear, the instructions are life-saving, and overall it’s one of the best books I have read/listened to. However, the narration is simply horrendous, if it wasn’t the great book that it is I would have dropped it right away because of the narration. Peter Prova should never narrate a book, it should be considered criminal to what he has done with this book. The man literally misreads or mispronounces one in every three words, added to that the many times he burbs while narrating just throws you off completely. I would certainly be buying the hardcopy and rereading it!
