Story
For a long time, no one pulling the strings in the comedy world thought that a woman over fifty from rural Tennessee could make it in the industry. But Leanne Morgan has defied the odds, reaching millions with her musings on hormones, low-rise britches, Weight Watchers, and her opposites-attract relationship with her husband, Chuck. In her charming southern accent, Morgan brings listeners inside her quest to find her voice after spending many years trying to figure out what that meant.

After stumbling upon and then listening to every TikTok I could find by Leanne Morgan, I was crazy happy to learn that she had published a book!! I purchased it immediately and could not WAIT to start listening to it. Hearing her voice is half the delight. Leanne Morgan is, as she would say of others, “yummy” and the real deal. Sequel? What in the World Again? LOL.

Story
At first glance, Anthony Chin-Quee looks like a traditional success story: a smart, ambitious kid who grew up to become a board-certified otolaryngologist—an ear, nose, and throat surgeon. Yet the truth is more complicated. As a self-described “not white, mostly Black, and questionably Asian man,” Chin-Quee knows that he doesn’t fit easily into any category. Growing up in a family with a background of depression, he struggled with relationships, feelings of inadequacy, and a fear of failure that made it difficult for him to forge lasting bonds with others.

I loved the first chapters about his medical residency, which I thought was what the book was going to be about. But no. The story line quickly shifted to the narrator’s endless analyses of his woeful love life and family life. I grew tired of it and didn’t finish the book.

Terrible!
Reviewed: 08-13-24
I disliked everything about this book except the subject matter: the women who served in Vietnam. The prose is on the level of YA fiction and reads like a cheap romance novel. One cringe-worthy cliche after another. Wooden characters. The only reason I listened to the end is that it was chosen by a friend as the August book for our book club.

I was so disappointed in this book that I had (foolishly) hoped would provide lots of concrete examples of what it’s like to work in the White House. I can only recall two or three examples. Also, the book is poorly written—I guess her editor had better things to do….

What a colossal disappointment. Katie Couric’s memoir is mediocre in terms of the writing and aggravating in terms of the author’s penchant for name dropping. I’m sorry to say that I think less of her after listening to her memoir.

Story
In 2016, Rob Delaney’s one-year-old son, Henry, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The family had moved from Los Angeles to London with their two young boys when Rob’s wife was pregnant with Henry, their third. The move was an adventure that would bind them even more tightly together as they navigated the novelty of London, the culture clashes, and the funhouse experience of Rob’s fame—thanks to his role as co-creator and co-star of the hit series Catastrophe. Henry’s illness was a cataclysm that changed everything about their lives.

Heartbreak and Humor
Reviewed: 12-06-22
It may sound cold, but I loved listening to Rob Delaney narrate the story of Henry, his baby boy who died of brain cancer. In a short 3 hours, I learned more about love than I have from any other book. And I never once felt guilty laughing out loud at Rob’s raw satire and wit. So yes, heartbreak and fury, humor and joy can, indeed, co-exist. This book is proof.

I read a lot, and yet I had never heard of this book until a book-lover friend recommended it to me. At first, I was skeptical because the story line is about a man and his otters—I couldn't envision myself getting excited about otters! How wrong I was. I absolutely adore the language and the story line of this non-fiction book so much that I have already listened to it twice.
