Story
Barbara was 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital Aston Hall in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But during her stay, Barbara was systematically drugged and abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner. Somehow, eventually, she started to campaign for answers. This is a shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care.

Amazing story of courage

I could not stop listening it drew me in, the details were enough to make you feel like you were there and feel the tragedy of the story. The writing gives humanity and a personality to Barbara, you know she’s a real person right from the beginning. The narrator does an amazing job with the story!! I will definitely recommend.

Suspenseful and engaging

I truly enjoyed the story, it was suspenseful and engaging. There was just enough drama and excitement to hold my interest, without going over the edge. I enjoyed the reader and his many voices for the characters. It’s nice to have a light and easy listen while driving.

Captivating as always

The saga continues and I was in love with it all, so many twists and turns. The attention to detail is amazing! My only ‘complaint’ is how this book was divided into sections for download, was very annoying to remember what one I was on and to have to ‘start’ a new one. I like seeing how much I’ve listened to and how much is left. There should be an option to do one or the other. I truly hope no others are like this.

Story
The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the privilege, although some might call it a burden, of knowing that war cannot be avoided.

Buyer beware!
Reviewed: 01-25-20
This one was such a disappointment after Dear Martin, if I had listened to this one first I would never have tried DM thinking it would be just as bad. This book is full of every racial, poverty, rich kid cliche available and goes on and on about them. The main character has the biggest chip on her shoulder, which is the main theme of the book, it gets old fast. The male main character adds some pizazz to the story, but sadly not enough, his part could have been expanded beyond rich kid.
The two books are like night and day as far as the writing. I feel this was a rough (very rough) draft of a book that was thrown out to the publisher. The story line is all over the place, easy to 'see' the final result, which I figured out almost immediately. And I won't even start on the 'talking' inanimate objects, oh goodness. I thought maybe this might be aimed at a middle school audience, but there is quite a bit of sexual reference so maybe not? I don't know, but honestly could not wait for it to end, I hardly ever abandon a book before it is done, but almost did with this one. I'm on the fence if I will try another of her books.

This was such a fun listen, I wanted it go longer. I have always admired Madame Curie and her ambition at a time when a woman was expected to be meek and silent. The narrator is wonderful to listen to and the story has an easy flow, I was sad when it ended but happy for how it ended.

So many metaphors and similes
Reviewed: 04-13-19
Let start off with the narrater is great, he does the best he can with this book. Right away you begin to realize you are in for a long read, like a 1st grader reading a novel (see what I did there!) At every turn there is either a simile or a metaphor, literally just too much, very distracting from the story. The storyline is ok, a little predictable, but not bad. I finished because I bought it and was going to finish, but will not be getting any of the other books, although they are in my wish list. I just can't do another book of similes and metaphors, I felt like I was back in high school english class, having to write a paper with x number of each.
