About this listen

In a world where women hold all the power and men have barely been an afterthought, an intrepid shipmistress must put aside everything she knows if she is to save her people.

Bela is at the helm of the Sandcrow, a ship sent from calm seas to the far frozen north in search of a legendary power that could turn the tide of war. Locked into ice, the Sandcrow is lost. Now, for the shipmistress and her crew, a desperate voyage becomes a chilling struggle for survival against nature, fear, and prejudice.

If Bela can lead them to their ultimate destination, will the magic they find be their redemption - or their destruction?

MEH?

The story has some potential, it seems like it is missing a clear beginning and a clear end. the story picks up on the middle of the action and has no build up and no real conclusion

Well done.

I really enjoyed 'reading' this. The narration was well done, and the story was great. I wish there was more! The world was exciting and there was plenty of action and suspense. I definitely recommend.

Not what I expected

As detailed as the author was throughout the book, I was expecting a bit more detail in the final action scene. To go from "my skin was torn away from my body to I woke up in a cabin" without a more detailed explanation left me a bit perplexed.

A solid storyteller

The narrator has soothing voice that emoted the fantasy and drama of a wonderfully fanciful adventure. Would like for it to be a bit more fleshed out in term of the What, Why & When of the story. Looking for More story’s by this author.

Wasn't sure at first, but then it grabbed me

Compared to my usual sci-fi/fantasy fare this is quite different. The first 15 mins or so I wasn't sure I would continue listening based on story & reader, but it caught my attention. The reader's throaty timbre gave the characters depth & I was transported into this story. I listen while working & thought about where this could be going overnight. Questions about the why were answered as the story progressed and the Ship Mistress became more in so many ways & the Man even more than that. The concept of women being the "upper class" was new as far as stories I've listened to as an adult and I was intrigued by how the author explored that. Even more interesting is that the author is a man :)
It left me wanting more. I wanted to know if they really did go back & how they handled it. Were they able to remain friends or did they become more, or did they revert back to their "classes" by choice or by force?
I really liked this story!
