The author was clear and the narrator was great for the text. I had attempted Barth before and gave up. But this work was understandable and compelling. I liked it so much I also bought a copy for my Kindle which I am underlining ant noting.

I found a lot value and help in this book
Reviewed: 01-29-09
I am glad I bought this book. I wish I had it two years earlier.
While I occassionally wish the author said more about this or that, I find there is so much useful information in this book that I keep coming back to it again and again for increased self-awareness and for insight in my relationships.
I have found the paper version a helpful resource (or online info) since I need the visualization of the circle of the nine types and the directions of movent between them in times of stress or security.
I hope the publisher releases a pdf download to suppliment the audio.

New York Times best seller and Whitebread Book of the Year, Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney's new translation of Beowulf comes to life in this gripping audio. Heaney's performance reminds us that Beowulf, written near the turn of another millennium, was intended to be heard not read.

Required reading in high school. I have been back to this one again and again. Heaney is so much my preferred reader that I will listen to no other rendition of this work.
I listen to this for different reasons each time it seems. I have come to Beowulf to experience the action, or the honor, or the tragedy, or the hope. I am in the mood for this book every fall and many summers. Listening to it helps me identify my own internal struggle in the mirrored images of these people.

This book is an absolute eye-opener for me. It challenged my thoughts about political relationships in college at work and more. It offered me greater sense of purpose and fulfillment through building contacts into an intimate network.
Maybe I wanted a different narrator at the start, but within the first chapter I was wowed by the whole experience of this download.

Story
One of the greatest treats in all world literature, this masterpiece from Mark Twain inspired a literary revolution. The novel offers both brilliant humor and tragedy as Huck and Jim explore the moral dilemmas of slavery and freedom. Huck, the narrator, is shrewd, ingenious, and literal; he reports on everything he sees, which allows the listener to experience the hypocrisy of "sivilization".

This is classixc I bought in hopes of being able to listen and just relax. I'm glad I did. Although I sometimes find I need to chuckle. There is excitement without anxiety. Great for me when I have had a stressful day.
I find it so easy to listen to and so well read that it has been hard to recall if it were read by a team of people or just by one very talented individual in order to present such clearly developed characters through the sound of the voices.

Story
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

I read this book 25 years ago and cited it in a college paper about perseverence. It was a treat to experience this story again. I was moved by the narrators reading. He read it in such a way that was able to lay my emotional response on the story without being overpowered his. Even so his reading was rich and deep.

I bought the book after listening to it from the library years ago. (The British accent of the narrator is great). Chesterton provides guidance for thought on a whole host of topics, and he states his case in a most enjoyable fashion. I appreciate his expressions and vocabulary as well. When I found this title on Audible I jumped at the chance to get it!

Good content bad reading
Reviewed: 01-16-08
The content of the book is well thought out and presented. It has a lot to offer me.
The narration is another matter. When the reader came to a passage in which a woman was speaking he would use a voice that sounded weak and felt condesending toward women. My wife listened to more than half of the book with me, but she faithfully protested the voice used to portray the female characters.
The text is very gender inclusive. The reading is not.
