The second book in her Chronicles of the Kings series, Song of Redemption, is a retelling of the life of Hezekiah, King of Judah from 716 to 687 BC. Only one thing...

The only thing I didn't care for too much is the narrator's voices for the men -- rather irritating.
But wonderful to have these Old Testament figures come to life in very plausible ways. Really well done, Lynn Austin! Can't wait to start the next one!

Story
Peggy Serrano couldn’t wait for her best friend to come home from the war. But the Jimmy Barnett who returns is much different from the Jimmy who left, changed so drastically by his experience as a medic in Europe that he can barely function. When he attempts the unthinkable, his parents check him into the VA hospital. Peggy determines to help the Barnetts unravel what might have happened to send their son over the edge. She starts by contacting Jimmy’s war buddies, trying to identify the mysterious woman in the photo they find in Jimmy’s belongings.

Loved the story
Reviewed: 09-20-22
I loved the story as usual with Lynn Austin's stories. I like the way she interweaves the gospel and the characters' faith in an authentic way, and deals with the hard questions realistically. Highly recommend.
I don't love the narrator's voice -- I find the rhythm of her reading a bit dramatic and annoying. But that's probably just my preference.

Great story as usual from Lynn Austin.

It was a great story as I have come to expect from Lynne Austin, and the performance by Ruth Ann Phimister was well done, but I have a hard time listening to her voice– – It just seems too old for such young girls as the characters were. I just think that her voice would be better suited to older characters.

Story
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

The only bad thing I can say is that it went too quickly! I loved the way they had both of them reading as if they were responding to each other. These two are the real deal and I appreciate the publisher letting them write the book in a way that shows that.

Story
After five hectic years of retirement from Lord's Chapel, Father Tim Kavanagh returns with his wife, Cynthia, from a so-called pleasure trip to the land of his Irish ancestors. While glad to be at home in Mitford, something is definitely missing: a pulpit. But when he's offered one, he decides he doesn't want it. Maybe he's lost his passion. His adopted son, Dooley, wrestles with his own passion - for the beautiful and gifted Lace Turner, and his vision to become a successful country vet.
