About this listen

In this sweeping saga, three Swedish sisters endure an 1890s Atlantic crossing, an Ellis Island detention, and various other trials as they struggle to find love, faith, and home.

First came their mother's death. Then their father's suicide. For orphans Elin, Kirsten, and Sofia, life stretches on like an endless winter. When circumstances become unbearable, they write their Chicago relatives, desperate for a safe haven. Soon the three find themselves among the huddled masses bound for America - the promised land of dreams and second chances. Yet amidst the hardships of their journey, these brave young ladies determine to let nothing stop them from reaching a place they can call home.

I could not stop listening to it and now I am sad it is over. I wish she would continue the story in a series.

Loved it

When I first started I thought it would be boring almost stopped, and then I fell in love. I’m glad I didn’t stop. It was a great read. Author did an amazing job and the narrator was great. Thank you.👍💕🥰

Beautiful story written about coming to America from Sweden in late 1800’s. I wanted to listen because my grandparents came from Germany about the same time on a ship ( I found pictures from my parents home after they passed away with dates and people written on back) so this story captured my attention. Will make you laugh and at times tear up.

I love this story so much! I struggled a little bit with the narrator. But once I got into the story, I was fine with it.

I enjoyed this book a great deal, but found that some of the details could’ve been shortened up a bit. I love the endings for the characters I couldn’t put it down.

Touching

The story was really good. I enjoyed it very much. But who made the decision to choose the narrator?? The story is about three young girls, 19, 18 and 16. And the narrator sounded like she was 90 years old. It was incredibly distracting. And the parts where she sings… I had to just forward through that part. It was terrible.

Great story… wrong narrator!!

And I love the story,
But the narrator was too old to be reading the part of these 3 young girls from Sweden. Her voice inflection always made them seem angry and upset . She almost ruined the story for me, but I’m glad I finished
It!! I would suggest reading it rather than listening to it!!

Lynn Austin does not disappoint. However, the readers voice seemed too old for the young girls in the story

facinating and heart-warming story

I LOVED the story. It kept me intrigued. I nearly returned it though, at the beginning of the book, because of the narrator. The book is about three girls ranging from 16-19 years old. The narrator sounds as though she is in her upper years. The voice did not match the characters. While the narrator bothered me throughout the story, the story itself was enough to keep me going.

Wonderful book. Narrator not compatible.
