Story
A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality: the black Chinese restaurant.

Read a bit “black”
Reviewed: 07-03-22
I am not criticizing the voice actor in as much as saying it’s really hard for me to feel a novel that is read that way. You can find Paul on YouTube reading from his book and he just reads. So many audio Versions of books do that and I’m not sure who’s fault it is and maybe some people like it that way but I can’t understand it to the degree that when I go and actually read the book it’s like a completely different book. So my problem is with narrators playing a character instead of just reading the book. Some parts were really good but it takes away from the story itself. That being said, the writing is spectacular

Story
Juice is a man who contains multitudes: He's a top shagger; a drug-dealing, gonzo porn star; and taxi driver. As we ride along in Juice's cab through the depraved streets of Edinburgh, Juice encounters a series of charmingly filthy characters, all of whom present their own, uh, unique challenges. Has he finally met his match in Hurricane "Bawbag"? Can he discover the fate of the missing beauty, Jinty Magdalen, and keep her idiot-savant lover, the man-child Wee Jonty, out of prison?

Not The sex lives of Siamese twins or bedroom secrets of master chefs
Reviewed: 03-02-22
This one was not as easy of a listen for me as the sex lives of Siamese twins but maybe that is because I am an American. I just didn’t understand all of it but possibly it would’ve been easier reading it but still an amazing story great characters and just all-around top-notch.

Story
When Lucy Brennan, a Miami Beach personal-fitness trainer, disarms an apparently crazed gunman chasing two frightened homeless men along a deserted causeway at night, the police and the breaking-news cameras are not far behind. Within hours, Lucy becomes a hero. Her celebrity is short-lived, though: the "crazed gunman", turns out to be a victim of child sexual abuse and the two men are serial pedophiles.

One of The Greats.

It took me a little while to really appreciate the voices but in the end I did. The book in and of itself is phenomenal. Like any crime noir. Like Hubert Selby Jr mixed with Chuck Palahniuk and Iain Banks. And some Hunter S Thompson as well. I just can’t say enough about the brilliance of this book. I couldn’t stop one I was hooked. Thank you.
