Story
It’s been a long year for Sage and his friends, and all of Junction, California, and it’s not over yet. Freddy's school of magic is still a mystery, and figuring it out would be enough work, but the investigation leads them to the mysterious coded notes of Junction’s long-dead first magical artist, and then to the last place any of them ever expected to end up: the 19th century. Worse yet, when they get there, Fluke is missing, and Sage isn’t sure he can get back home without his best friend. If Sage has to leave him behind, is it worth returning to his own time at all?

Story
When Cassius Black moves to San Francisco for a fresh start, the angel's hopes of staying below the radar of the supernatural organizations that oversee the otherworldly and magic users in the city are dashed when he stumbles across a dead body in the sewers. Morgan King and his team of Argonaut agents have been on the hunt all summer for the culprits behind a series of gruesome killings that have rocked the city. When Fate puts Cassius in Morgan's path, he realizes the angel everyone likes to call The Devil may very well be the only person who can help them track down the murderers.

Audio volume NEEDS EQUALIZATION!!
Reviewed: 08-02-23
Plot: Mysterious killings, soul stealings, angels, demons, witches and warlocks, and an impish kitty
Feels: Not much in the emotion evoking department aside from the scenes with the demon cat.
Drama: Mysterious big bad
Heat: 2/5
Characters: A huge cast of characters, will definitely need a character list and glossary.
Pacing: Fast
Length: Longer with some filler
Ending: Continuing series, light cliffhanger for the murder mystery, and a start to Cassius and Morgan's relationship.
Performance: Alex Kydd's narration, enunciation, and inflections were good. The audio recording edits, however, was horrible for headphones or car speaker listening due to the drastic volume changes going from 1 to 10 and back randomly throughout. Sure, I know to expect shouts and exclamations at a higher volume, but this was ridiculous, and it wasn't limited to shouts. It was as if 70% of the time as he was narrating scenes or performing the MCs, he was reading looking down at the book instead of speaking into the mic and then either depending on the text or who knows what, it was like he decided he needed to loudly speak right up on the mic. Not sure why this happened most often for other characters’ dialogue, especially females - I dreaded those volume change moments.

Surprisingly sweet and fluffy
Reviewed: 05-06-23
Plot: This surprisingly sweet and fluffy romance with hard BDSM play entirely focuses on the development of the MCs’ relationship and their independent growth: Mal learns that he can be his sadistic dom self with Kyle. And Kyle learns that he can trust in being wanted and loves submitting to his master.
Feels: The fluffy aftercare scenes were very heart-warming
Drama: A mere drop in the bucket, thankfully. Mal’s drama spanned a few pages in the early chapters, and Kyle’s drama spanned across a chapter towards the end. Good riddance for unapologetically homophobic parents.
Heat: 4/5, lots of extended, descriptive BDSM scenes
Characters: Kyle is a sweet, insecure, masochistic submissive, making him a perfect fit for the sadistic but loving Mal.
Pacing: Smooth flow, medium
Length: Long with some ‘slice-of-life’ filler
Ending: HEA in BDSM-style
Performance: The narration was enjoyable, the voices and characteristics given to Kyle and Mal were distinctive and not over-the-top. Most importantly, the diction was crisp and clear and best at 2x speed.

Nothing brings two men—or one man and an ancient god—together like revenge. Private investigator Sloane sacrificed his career in law enforcement in pursuit of his parents’ murderer. Like them, he is a follower of long-forgotten gods, practicing their magic and offering them his prayers…not that he’s ever gotten a response.

I'm a Sucker for this series!!

Plot: An original action mystery set in a mystical world of magic and gods
Feels: Romantic and hysterical
Drama: Mystery of the past
Heat: 5/5 Super hot tentacle-ly sexy times
Characters: Both MCs are completely lovable. Loch/Azaethoth is hilarious and so sweet, just perfect for Sloane.
Pacing: Quick
Length: Medium
Ending: HFN - can’t wait for the rest of this series on audio!
Performance: John Solo was a great choice to give life to Loch and Sloane. His style of narration matched the whimsy of the story and made Sloane’s reactions super cute (especially after sexy times lol).

Great until the big reveal at the end
Reviewed: 03-06-22
I loved this book and Tristan James did an awesome job bringing on the spookiness. Word of warning: don't listen with headphones at high volume.
Only reason for 1-star deduction is because the big reveal at the ending was practically cliffhangery with no book 3 on the horizon (this was published in 2014!) I truly hope it's still in the works...

Story
He’s a shining star, I’m a black hole. Complete opposites. And just like our astronomic counterparts, there’s no way Marty’s light is ever going to brighten me. Black holes don’t let any light escape. They devour it all. And that’s what will happen to Marty if he doesn’t keep his distance from me. I want to warn him, but there’s a selfish part of me that can’t do it. Like a moth, I’m drawn to Marty’s light. I know I should stay away — for his sake more than mine — but I can’t.

Theme song: You light up my life
Reviewed: 04-27-21
Plot: A very sunshine/grump trope; the past visits and won’t go away
Feels: Marty is so endearing you truly root for him, while you want to shake Sebastian sometimes. Sebastian's story was heart-breaking.
Drama: I am so not a fan of MM stories with bitchy villainesses that create drama to move the plot along and Ugh you get two in this
Heat: 1/5
Characters: Holy moly one nasty old biddy (doesn’t deserve to be called a ‘lady’) and the evil twin sister of Sebastian’s lost fiance
Pacing: Good flow
Length: Not too long
Ending: HEA
Performance: Good narration - one comment I have is that you can hear the inhalation at every pause.

Plot: Mystery/suspense with romance - reminiscent of those fun thrillers from the 80s and 90s, but with a happy ending
Feels: Was on the edge of my seat not knowing who to suspect at the beginning, especially when I thought it was only Drake’s POV; Heart-breaking moments with a couple of backstories.
Drama: Liam’s first blowup fight with Drake, though Liam quickly resolved it himself with the best inner monologue
Heat: 4/5 - lots of smexy times
Characters: So glad Drake got over his aversion to commitment, and Liam was definitely the better choice!

Drama: Ethan's brother, Keith’s homophobia; Matt’s father’s mental health
Heat: 3/5
Characters: I love Romeo Alexander’s embarrassingly supportive fathers and Matt’s father definitely is adorably supportive, Ethan cowers a bit too much under his homophobic brother
Pacing: The story meanders a bit in the middle, but overall good flow
