Tariq Trotter, a.k.a. Black Thought, sits firmly within the pantheon of hip-hop’s greatest MCs. But the cofounder of the multiplatinum-selling hip-hop band The Roots is best understood not through all trophies and awards, but the sheer weight of his lyrical force. Loved the openness of his story as well as the music mixed in the background. He transported us to experience a glimpse of the creativity of Tarik Trotter, Black Thought and the ROOTS as a collective. Truly enjoyed and look forward to more from this author

Found the tidbits helpful but the audio was grainy and distracting. I could hear residual noise and definite distinction when he stopped and restarted the recording.

Story
The rules of the game were simple. One weekend. We play our roles. Actually, we play lots of roles. I get the info I need for a secret work project. We go back to how we were. That’s what I proposed to handsome, clever, commanding Jake. That’s what he said yes to - this decadent gift of a weekend that would get me out of trouble. But that’s not what happened when our nights together in Vegas ended....

Not for me

I’m not sure what was worse the story or the performance. The scenarios were just corny with the introduction of too many secondary stories. The narrators sounded to forced and stiff. I wished I could have liked it but I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Could have been better

Though I purchased this for my summer beach book, I expected a smoother story with somewhat believable characters. Tania and Gage’s story was all over the place. It appeared that the author wasn’t sure which direction she wanted to take them so she threw all possibilities into the story.
