About this listen
Best-selling author Rochelle Alers welcomes listeners back to romantic New Orleans in her warm and sexy series about four very different women embarking on a new adventure.
Sometimes you go in search of a new beginning. Other times, it finds you. Tonya Martin enjoys her job as a professional chef for a Wall Street bank, her East Harlem walk-up, and the freedom to live and love by her own rules - right up until the day she finds herself suddenly downsized. But a spontaneous trip to New Orleans opens up a new opportunity. With time on her hands and her daughter soon graduating college, Tonya has the chance to reach for her own long-cherished dream - opening a restaurant on her friend Hannah's beautiful Garden District estate.
While Hannah and her new husband work on transforming the DuPont House into a luxury inn, Tonya explores local cuisine, taking an apprentice role at famed restaurant Chez Toussaints. Gage Toussaint's mix of Creole, Cajun, and African ancestry is deeply attractive, and the sexy chef clearly wants their friendship to become much more. Drawn to him yet hesitant given their previous unhappy marriages, Tonya wonders if it's too late to leap into love again. Could Gage be just the ingredient she needs to make this delicious new life complete?

Corporate attorney Hannah DuPont-Lowell always pictured herself returning to New Orleans to retire - just not yet. But after her Manhattan company abruptly lays off its staff, there's no better place to figure out a next move than the porch of her plantation-style home. Nestled in the stunning Garden District, the DuPont House has been in Hannah's family for two centuries. With its 18 rooms and two guesthouses, it's far more home than widowed Hannah needs. Still, it could make a wonderful inn, especially if she can convince her friends and former coworkers to join in the venture.

Boring
Boring plodding story. Sometimes the lead character woman sounded like the lead character man. Does it really matter how many attempts it took to fasten a bracelet? Irrelevant details weighed the story down.

Could have been better
Though I purchased this for my summer beach book, I expected a smoother story with somewhat believable characters. Tania and Gage’s story was all over the place. It appeared that the author wasn’t sure which direction she wanted to take them so she threw all possibilities into the story.

Couldn't put it down
Loved it most memorable was the Valentine's Day dinner Tonya fixed and her marriage proposal from Gage, her restaurant names & family love.

Disappointing at best
Unfortunately this narration was underwhelming. There was no passion or emotion. The book while I am a fan of the author was missing it’s normal development of the characters and a solution to the story. Without being a complete spoiler I will leave it with my overall disappointment in the repetition of a lot of backstory and no development or resolution of the two main characters and their goals.

Great
I really liked this book and would recommend it. I wish this book was a movie or TV show. I wish the narrator would have made the female and Male voice more distinction. I sometimes couldn't tell who was talking. It had a great storyline and sexual storyline. I really liked this couple being together. I would have liked to heard how her parents and daughter liked him and how his mother and son liked her. I would have liked to heard if the New York friends came down and about their love lives. I also want to know if her daughter was involved with someone. I hope more books are written about those parties.
