...and so three dimensional. I've been a fan of the series and a fan of the author for a short time but have fallen head over heels in love with these characters. I am going to hate a future that doesn't continue to have them appear in it. They feel like family, and I may have a crush on Nick.

For those who are already fans of the AO series this picks right up where the story left off and really takes the story in a fun direction. I can't say I didn't imagine this path as a possibility but I certainly didn't expect it. Loved it!!

Story
On February 1, 2003, Columbia disintegrated on reentry before the nation's eyes, and all seven astronauts aboard were lost. Author Mike Leinbach was a key leader in the search and recovery effort as NASA, FEMA, the FBI, the US Forest Service, and dozens more federal, state, and local agencies combed an area of rural east Texas the size of Rhode Island for every piece of the shuttle and her crew they could find. Assisted by hundreds of volunteers, it would become the largest ground search operation in US history.

A Great Experiemce

I lived in Dallas when this happened and I saw it streak past in the sky. It was difficult to follow the story originally, but this was breathtaking.
After all Texas did for Columbia, and JSC didn't get a shuttle when the program was ended... it's a sad shame. Houston worked hard for every mission and Texas bled and died for NASA during Columbia search/ investigation and we got nothing. This book made me even more angry about that.

Story
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

My 17 year old and I listened to this together on our commute every day. I thought a book like this so kichy around 80s pop, the humor might be lost on my daughter... but we both enjoyed this from start to finish. I did have to explain a couple of the things but not much.
The story, the storytelling by Wil Wheaton, and the world compelled both of us into complete absorption. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
