Story
John Taylor Gatto's Weapons of Mass Instruction focuses on mechanisms of traditional education which cripple imagination, discourage critical thinking, and create a false view of learning as a byproduct of rote-memorization drills. Gatto's earlier book, Dumbing Us Down, introduced the now-famous expression of the title into the common vernacular. Weapons of Mass Instruction adds another chilling metaphor to the brief against conventional schooling.

A validation
Reviewed: 02-15-23
As a parent of a child to soon be of age to enter the formal school system, my gut was telling me to go back to my research on homeschooling. After seeing how a glorified daycare I put him in handled my highly verbal, social and eloquent 3 1/2 y.o. I knew it was time to act and take things back in my own hands. I had caved to the social and family pressure of “the child needs socialization and you can’t do this, it must be done by professionals” sentiment.
At the age of 4 I pulled him out of it after coming to my senses witnessing having seen enough small but consistent red flags. The so called specialists were not special at all and I knew this was just the preview of what was to come. Uniform, uninspiring, fearful, rigid, lazy way of doing a job. Despite the good intentions.
This book validated my decision and empowered my suspicions, it gave words to my feelings and much food for thought.
I’ve recommended it and will continue to to parents who are curious beyond the allowed amount.
Thank you for the audio version, I didn’t want it to end.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. I’ve listened to it twice so far, during the times I felt I was losing my understanding and ability to parent effectively.
I’ve recommended to many mommas, from the infant age to older kids.
Thank you Janet!

I found this audiobook very informative, covering all of my questions and concerns. The tone was extremely positive and motivational, and actually made me look forward to parts of pregnancy and delivery I was afraid of.
The author did an excellent job!
