Lots of twists & turns

I love books that introduce multiple characters that could be the villain. The story was plausible, though it reached sometimes, and was distinctly different from most murder mysteries I’ve read. While I figured out one important element, it was hard to know WHO to trust! Very suspenseful and a real lesson in survival.

Excellent story

I’m not a fan of most Sherlock Holmes stories, but this was very cleverly written. Characters are well developed and their idiosyncrasies revealed over time. Plots and subplots were interwoven smoothly. And the narrators did pretty well maintaining accents, not flawless but usually easy to recognize the speaker. And it was a long book, so I had many hours of entertainment. Well done!

Good story but it took a while to figure out the pattern of rewind, fast forward. I liked the reader’s voice except when she dropped it so quietly to be a whisper of a voice inside a character’s head. Turn up the volume to hear the words, then, suddenly her full voice returns painfully loud. Interesting characters and interplay.

Lina Meisel, a retired librarian in Florida, is reading the newspaper one morning when she freezes. Her eyes lock on a photograph of a book she hasn’t seen in 65 years - a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II - an experience Lina remembers well - and the search to reunite people with the texts stolen from them so long ago. The book in the photograph is one of the most fascinating cases.

Good story, poor recording
Reviewed: 07-29-20
This book had a typically complex plot that Lisa Reagan is known for. Good character development, compelling storytelling, and unexpected turns. The recording, though, was poor quality with the sound moving in and out at times and what sounded like voiceovers spliced in obviously. It was also a little annoying that the narrator mispronounced common words, and repeatedly used “annathing” for anything...I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an accent or colloquialism. Just distracted from the story.
