Stunning, beautiful, the soundtrack adds so much!

This series ripped my heart, made me smile and cry, I listened to the entire thing twice in a row because I wanted to be sure I didn't miss a moment. I absolutely loved the Booktrack soundtrack, it added such depth and dimension that I honestly don't know how I'll return to audio books without it. I recommend this series, this author, this narrator, and the Booktrack. Every bit of it was incredible.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

I don't understand the bad reviews at all

This book was amazing. The narrator was excellent! And this version with the "Booktrack" added so much to the story, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. It's dystopian, it's very dark, and it's fantastic. I'm so excited to listen to the next two books but first I'm going to listen to this one again because I'm sure there are things I missed the first time through while trying to determine what was going on. I loved it. I really appreciated the LGBTQ+ representation in this story, it definitely added to the future-feeling aspect. The trans nature of one character doesn't really come into play other than being mentioned, but the romantic triad formed by 3 other characters really warmed my heart in this otherwise bleak and cold story. Highly recommend this book, this narrator, and the Booktrack version. So glad I chose this. I look forward to checking out other things by this author!

I really loved this book! While I agree with other reviews saying it is weird that the narrator doesn't have a British accent, I honestly don't even care. The actor was so good, I would not have replaced him with a British guy. Really, that was maybe the best voice acting I've heard in an audio book! I loved it. The story was amazing and I cannot wait for book 2. Buying it immediately. Highly recommend this book!

Painful. Excruciating.

It was incredibly hard to get through this book, and quite frankly is have stopped if it wasn't narrated by Wil Wheaton. He's great and did an excellent job with it. The story was just so cringey and way too referential. I liked RP1 and this was just such a garbage read. Felt like it was just written as a cash grab. Don't bother with it, you'll be annoyed the whole time.

It was pretty good, but a little confusing
Reviewed: 07-22-21
I was quickly drawn in, and very much enjoyed the first half of the book. But in the last third or so, it got very confusing. The historical aspect of the story was muddled and kinda lost me, I just didn't really understand the old man's story and the rest of the book was based on that. So everything after that was pretty weird and confusing. It was okay I guess. I finished it, I did want to find out how it ended, but I'd like to know maybe one chapter more about how it was explained to everyone else.

From 1501 to 1505, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti both lived and worked in Florence. Leonardo was a charming, handsome 50-year-old at the peak of his career. Michelangelo was a temperamental sculptor in his mid-20s, desperate to make a name for himself. Michelangelo is a virtual unknown when he returns to Florence and wins the commission to carve what will become one of the most famous sculptures of all time: David.
