Story
The Jungle is the story of Jurgis Rudkus, a Slavic immigrant who marries frail Ona Lukoszaite and seeks security and happiness as a workman in the Chicago stockyards. Once there, he is abused by foremen, his meager savings are filched by real estate sharks, and at every turn he is plagued by the misfortunes arising from poverty, poor working conditions, and disease. Finally, in accordance with Sinclair’s own creed, Rudkus turns to socialism as a way out.

Stayed for the Story AND NARRATOR!!!
Reviewed: 11-05-23
I've been using my membership to catch up on books I've ALWAYS wanted to read but never had time. I was always "iffy" about this story line and number of characters, but the narrator is wonderful and has a way of drawing you in and keeping it all separated for us. ❤
I about died laughing when he did the rich and drunk young man coming out of the theater. That sealed it for me! So, in the last few chapters I searched his name to find other books he has done that interest me (there's quiet a few!) and downloaded those too.
I don't know when I'll be watching TV again....

Not a bedtime story for me

The narrators voice might be great for bedtime stories or meditation but I was all ears for the bits I had not yet heard/learned.
I was skeptical at first seeing the length (but hey, it's free) and then I heard it was all oral collections in the book, so I had to add it into my queue to finish!
Highly recommend!

Will listen again- very relaxing

I grew up reading fables and moral-based stories, and now that I'm older learning these same type of stories from other cultures is even better.
The narrator's voice is calming after a long day. The only complaint is I wish there was a different way of separating the stories. It seems each rolls into the next. Perhaps a longer pause before the title?? Still, I love it. Five stars all the way!

Of all 30+ Midkemia-based audiobooks, this narrator gives the "because-you-read-it-you-can-imagine it-playing-in-your-mind" headspace. I need more of him! Please! What else does this man narrate and how do I find it?
