About this listen

Our Bedtime Stories are designed to let you drift off with no nagging feeling that you need to listen through to the end. Their purpose is to let you slowly fall into peaceful, restful sleep.

With that in mind, we present actor Brian Cox—Golden Globe winner for his portrayal of media tycoon Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession—returning to his Scottish roots with these evocative tales from the Scottish Highlands.

Brian Cox, born in Dundee, Scotland, has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theater extensively, where he gained recognition for his portrayal of King Lear. He played supporting roles in Rob Roy (1995) and in Mel Gibson’s Academy Award-winning Braveheart (1995). A winner of two Olivier Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, he was appointed to the Order of the British Empire at the rank of Commander.

Got this shortly after it appeared in fall of 21, my second one when starting to acquire “sleep stories”. It was over a year before I think I had heard all of the book but never fully from start to finish….which for me, qualified it as the very point of a go to sleep story.

In my top 5 sleep audios

Loved it. Enjoyed what I heard before I fell asleep. And listened to it again after waking to get the full story

Great Story

Interesting with good Voice, the telling of information was unknown for some of it. The subjects wandered a bit and the ending was abrupt and left you feeling like there was still more to come. I listened to the Audio 4 times and still experienced the same feelings.

Unexpected

This is one of the few and only bedtime stories that I can listen to, time and time again, and GUARANTEE that I have never made it through to the end. Granted, that is until just now...
The dulcet tones of Brian Cox’s narration immediately sets my usually overstimulated brain into a state of safety, relaxation, and ease.
The only flaw I can remark on is that the audible is so incredibly well produced that I’ve had to listen to the story at least 50 times before finally making it to the very end without falling asleep.

I NEVER submit personal reviews. However, I absolutely had to remark on this one! 👏🤗🤩

Best bedtime story EVER.

The narrator was awesome and I really appreciate the way he could draw you into the history of this Celtic belief, and I would not doubt that their people today still believe in fairies :-) I would recommend it for anyone who likes or is even getting interested in Irish or Scottish or Germanic historic fantasy.

Really good background on the Fay folk

Only covered fairies. There's so much more. The title implies there would a more complete covering.

Thin

Wonderful account of ancient superstitions-especially read by Brian Cox. I really appreciate the time used to collect and preserve this. More please!

Thank you for preserving this lore

A very pleasing reading of interesting lore, yet also relaxed me right to sleep, which was what I needed.

Interesting soporific

I enjoyed the storytellers way of telling the story. came back from Ireland this year and hearing the same stories back in Dublin was very interesting.

Story told very well.

the story was hard to follow. fun and informative. the terms were tougher to understand without the context of spelling.

I love Brian Cox's VO, but...
