Story
Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Not nearly the quality as It Ends with Us
Reviewed: 12-16-24
This book was fine, but the writing seemed rushed. As a stand alone book it would have been terrible, the character development entirely lacking. It was a good follow up for readers eager to hear how Lily and Adam’s story unfolds. Otherwise, I was disappointed.

Story
Esme is a start-up success who runs her own successful media company and heads up a series of investigative podcasts. She also has a beautiful home, where she lives with her sister, Michelle, and her son, Zachary. Sure, there’s an ex-husband hanging around - Owen likes to pop round a bit too often - but everything is civilised and amicable. She has life all tied up. But Esme knows that any successful podcaster is only as good as her last story, so she sets out on a new series of interviews to get to the truth behind Simone Fischer’s high-profile murder of her husband.

Others stated in their reviews that they were sitting on the edge of their seats, that there was twist after turn, but I found the storyline to be slow and predictable.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Slow and unbelievable
Reviewed: 01-04-24
Really? If my son was in the hospital with life-threatening conditions and consecutive surgeries the last thing I would do is leave his side and snoop… or try to solve a mystery… or ask him stressful questions…
In the amount of time the story took place the major question pertained to a scarf. Slow. And totally unbelievable. Glad it was a free credit.

Mundane and superficial

For other readers, a couple of giveaways here…
This book had a lot of potential, with a fascinating story about what’s now a ghost town in Colorado. However, as another reviewer put it, all of the characters that could have been much better developed, dropped off one by one. Each profound moment (living alone, off the land in a shack, giving birth) with skimmed over, left me on wanting. And the narrator began every single sentence with the same monotone voice. I mean, she did not even reflect any emotion when leaving her baby with someone else to take care of?!? I was hoping for so much more.

One is living hand to mouth, suffering at the hands of a violent partner who would rather see her dead than leave him. You may think you know these women already and how their lives will unfold. Beth will live happily ever after with her little girl and her soulmate. Cath will go back to her abusive husband. And these two women will never cross paths. But you will be wrong.

I appreciate the approach of this podcast. So many true crime stories highlight the gruesome nature of the crimes committed to satiate the listeners’ curiosity. This podcast went so much further than sharing the victims’ stories by providing thought-provoking testimonies and encouraging a reframing of the world’s conception of sex workers. Extremely well researched and presented with so much empathy. Thank you.
