Great Book! Terrible narrator!
Reviewed: 01-06-12
Would you consider the audio edition of The Ice Limit to be better than the print version?
No, but only because of the narrator. Can't stand the way he constantly tries to leave the sentences
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, definitely! Loved the idea of finding something like this meteorite, and was never quite sure whether they would succeed in transporting it or not.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?
ANYONE! This is the second book I have listened to that was narrated by him, and I will never buy another book that he narrates. His cadence is so irritating that I just cannot tolerate it for another book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reaction, but I really enjoyed it.
Any additional comments?
Somebody please retire Scott Brick....please, please, please.....

Story
On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a 32-year-old Realtor, had three goals: sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

I was held captive (no pun intended) from beginning to end. I had to keep telling myself it was a "story" the whole way through. A few things bothered me though. I can't imagine that a woman who had had this happen to her would go jogging alone all the time, and the ending just never quite rang true with me. Still and all, I listened to it twice back to back--gut wrenching story.

I love this series by Sara Donati almost as much as outlander. This book, however, was my least favorite because of the child, Birdie. Her character was so annoying that I almost didn't finish the book. I guess the author was going for precocious but all I could think was if this was my child I would teach her to have some respect for other people and quit whining and that the whole world does NOT revolve around her! Ridiculous and ruined the book for me.

I found the narrator really annoying--sounded like he was eating most of the time. I thought this would be interesting, but it kind of left me "why?" at the end--I'm not actually sure if I finished it or not...

Story
At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices - those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal - that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Story
A gripping and provocative tale of violence, alcohol, and taxes, The Whiskey Rebellion pits President George Washington and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton against angry, armed settlers across the Appalachians. Unearthing a pungent segment of early American history long ignored by historians, William Hogeland brings to startling life the rebellion that decisively contributed to the establishment of federal authority.

Good History Read!

I bought this book because I live near Berlin, PA, which celebrates the Whiskey Rebellion every year. I wanted to find out what exactly Berlin's role was in this incident in history. As it turns out, they never really mentioned Berlin (pretty funny, actually) but I was spellbound by what I learned about the actual event, as well as the history of the time. Great read if you're a history buff!
