Story
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Not up to par
Reviewed: 03-30-19
Evidently Baldacci is now following in the footsteps of Patterson and Kellerman...just put words on paper as quickly as possible and call it “your next book.” Awful, far-fetched, boring...who wants to read (ok listen) to 30 minutes of how a women puts her makeup on or works out in the gym. This cannot be written by the Baldacci we all knew and loved. The only reason I finished it was because I was on a long boring drive. Audible will allow a book to be returned. This one is definitely going back.

Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Story
Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

Did I mention it was boring. Not up to Baldacci’s usual clever writings. Glad this was not my first Baldacci, I would have read no more.

Story
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

....was about as exciting as hearing someone reading highway billboards while driving the expressway. The story is about a law school...diploma mill. Perhaps the author has become a "book mill" like James Patterson, who will put his name on any story that will bring in a buck. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's earlier books but could hardly finish this one.
