Magical Fantasy

This story was delightful and mysterious and romantic. The author has a wonderful talent of weaving history and believable fantasy to entertain like few can do. And I have to admit I enjoyed the narrator immensely; in fact, I had the book on Kindle but preferred to listen to her wonderful accent.

Story
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Redemption is Possible
Reviewed: 12-26-23
Hollywoodland, the third book in the Scott Carson saga, is riveting and thrilling and satisfying. Robert Crawford is at his best in describing historical events with fiction thrown in to make the reader feel it is all real.
Scott Carson grows as a man, husband and father, but the antagonist Sarah evolves more than I thought was possible to restore one's faith in the human race.
To make this book even better is Marnie L. Sher's audio reading and interpretation of Crawford's words. Her careful verbal acting skills are masterful; she's fabulous.

Riis introduces him to this detective, Angelo Delmonico (of the famous restauranteur family) and he finds the scientific-minded detective and he are of a similar mind regarding this new killer. Historical Mystery Thriller at its best.
Reviewed: 12-03-23
Robert Crawford's second book in the Scott Carson saga is as riveting as the first: Tatterdemalion. Young girls are prey to a deranged killer in the 1800's as Crawford reimagines life at that time; it is believable and is eerily accurate. Unpredictability, the conclusion of this story has an ending you won't see coming. Well done, Mr. Crawford.
Additionally, Marnie Sher narrates impressively. She captures the reader by creating unique voices for each character so they are easily identifiable and she is a star in the audio realm.
