About this listen

“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity." Xaden Riorson

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

It has been years since I have had a book, no a series, pull me in so deeply with so many varying emotions. Iron Flame is a seamless continuation of the story we have all so lovingly embraced. This is a wild ride of a book that takes us soaring through the eyes and emotions of not only Violet but her dragons and Xaden. I can not wait to watch this series rise to the level of love I know readers will hold it.
“It has been my honor”

Fluidly smooth continuation of Fourth Wing

As good as Fourth Wing. Only think I disliked is the last chapter and the guy who narrated it.

Amazing

I admit, the pacing was slower than the first but after a second, third. and fourth re-listen (yes I've listened 4 times within a week of release) I've grown more and more appreciative of the way Yarros has laid out this book. The level of planning, the plot twists, the character building, and angst between our protagonists are nothing short of spectacular. The story is well written with new details standing out each time I re-listened to this book. This world is so captivating and I am all in.

Wow!

Very slow and did not like how Violet couldn’t forgive Zadyn. Not a fan of the main character. She got weaker this book. It setting up story. Zadyen got better, Violence is amazing. She rocks!!!

Hard to get into- second time much better

Rebecca Yarros does it again. I have no words. This book had a lot of history and back story in it compared to the first, but it was executed in such a natural way. The narration was phenomenal. I really can’t wait to see what Hulu does and just how this book series continues.

I NEED THE THIRD BOOK!

This is a fast pace page turner that I have not been able to stop since I started. The only problems I have that give this one four stars rather than 5 is the arguing with Violet and Xaden. It took up too much of the book and became a distraction from the rest of the story . I would have like to have seen more character development between other characters. The other thing that takes away from the story is Violets incessant need to do everything herself . If she could just talk with her friends and family she could accomplish so much more. Other that that the book was great and leaves on a cliff hanger just as frustrating yes satisfying as the first book. I will be waiting impatiently for the next book .

Too much arguing

An even more fantastic book than the first! I am in shock and awe and it is going to take me a long while to digest all the things that happened! I don’t just need to listen to this again, I am going to go buy the actual hardcover now!

Holy Cannoli, Chaos!

So slow moving parts, then others overly fast. Seems chaotic at times, jumping around.
Narrator needs to tone down pitch of scream.
Another cliff hanger ending.
Was hoping for more from Xaden.
Overall a good book, Fourth Wing was better due to more structured storyline.

What the actual F***! Roller coaster!

Still not worth the hype… very cliché. I like the characters and the dragons. I like the story but it’s nothing new or original in any way.

Better than the first but

This novel, ups the notch. Answers questions poses new questions. Plenty of twists, turns and surprises. Way more action than the first book. more lore from the journals entry at the beginning of chapter, which I personally love. The ending is bitter, sweet.

Everything you wanted from the first book is here.
