About this listen

“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity." Xaden Riorson

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

Everything

This book was worth every hype!! I can't wait until the next book. The narrator is amazing. She makes you FEEL every character and their emotions. this is how an audiobook should be.

A Must Read! Wish I could give it 10+ stars!

Both books in this incredible series are absolutely amazing! I devoured them both in less than a week & am dying for the next book in this series! (Dear Rebecca, so sorry to be needy, but please, please please tell me you have the next book finished & you're releasing it next month! Just kidding, but seriously, you do have it ready?! Right???? I'm not above begging lol.)

Please ignore the comments about the narrator, she's actually fantastic. (I swear, some people just like to complain in the reviews but the narration is great.) There is a very small portion in the first book where you might be able to hear that the narrator might have a small cold, but seriously it's not anything that deserves the kind of comments left in the reviews. I'm actually mad on behalf of the narrator at how obnoxiously she was attacked in some of the reviews. Ugh, I hate when people do that because if I had listened, I would have missed out on this incredible story!

Don't miss out on this incredible story! My goodness, I never want it to end!!! You will experience every emotion & love the ride! The characters are extremely well developed & the story line has so much, it's impossible to capture it all in a review.

If you are a fan of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning or the Archangels series by Nalini Singh, then you will love this series! This is my first read by Rebecca Yarros & it will definitely not be my last! Thank you Rebecca for sharing this epic story with us!

Sass, sadness, shock, sweetness

Holy guacamole where to even start. I mean seriously this book just throws you right in and it is pedal to the metal from page one. From Violet reeling from the cliffhanger of book one to the gang figuring out what they are going to do about going back to BWC (which was an iconic entrance). We get two sassy dragons this time because why have one when you can have two. We see Violet dealing with her grief and anger of the war games. SO MANY SHOCKING MOMENTS! and let’s not forget allllllll the sweetness from our main couple of Violet and Xaden (who even when they are “mad” at each other totally love each other). Cannot wait for book three!

Such disappointment

A. Loved the first book.
B. Not everything has to be read at double speed and like it’s life or death… it’s just annoying
C. I used to really like Violet… and all of a sudden in this book she’s an entitled, self-centered, petulant 15 year old. I was so excited for a slightly older protagonist. She’s so bratty this book.

Now waiting for book 3

Terrible narrator; had to listen at 1.7 -2.0 speed to be able to tolerate the narrator. The story really built on the first book giving us more history. I enjoyed the character development of the dragons and Violet’s squad. Did not expect the end, and still not sure how I feel about the end.

Intense

This book was so much more than I ever expected it would be and the narrators were freaking amazing!! Rebecca Soler did such an amazing job making you feel what Violet was going through. The intensity of her emotions.

Incredible

I have 2 complaints about narrations but other than that this book was perfect.
The audio would soften during some of the conversations which made it difficult to hear, and some characters seemed to blend and sound the same.
But this book series is amazing, I can’t wait for the next one
