Story
On a whim, Grady Kendall applies to work as a live-in caretaker for a luxury property in Hawaiʻi, as far from his small-town Maine life as he can imagine. Within days he's flying out to an estate on remote Hokuloa Road, where he quickly uncovers a dark side to the island’s idyllic reputation: it has long been a place where people vanish without a trace. When a young woman from his flight becomes the next to disappear, Grady is determined—and soon desperate—to figure out what's happened to Jessie, and to all those staring out of the island’s “missing" posters.

Strange ending to what had been a good story.
Reviewed: 08-25-22
This was a disappointing ending to this series. It introduces a new subplot but doesn’t build upon it in an interesting way. What was the main narrative is essentially wasted and tied in an unsatisfying bow. Honestly this last and novel is by far the weakest in the series. The ending was bad. The book lacked coherence, emotion and connectivity to the main material. The writer ended the series by not utilizing the protagonist at all in the main narrative. Sad end to a series that had potential.

They seek Brazio Valeriani and information about the mirror created by his father, the sorcerer Ciro. Legend claims the mirror can be used to summon demons from beyond. Excellent performance, middling story.

I love the series. To me this is a strange one. It’s an interlude in the narrative, like a side campaign. The performance was great as usual and we return to some of the characters we like, and completely ignore others, but it doesn’t connect much to the overall narrative. It’s like a bridge episode in a tv show. There is added depth to some characters, especially villains like Cardinal Black, but there really is t any growth to Corbett at all. The novel is interesting but takes some of the steam out of the overall story. Really wanted to like it more.
