Story
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

The son narrates it awful
Reviewed: 01-09-25
I would've much preferred Gabor narration instead of his son who right off the bat has to bring his LGBT affiliation into play.

This is my story!

I have never heard my story, and the issues with the narcissists in my life. described so honestly. The Narratoration is flawless. Told brilliantly! Everything I've always thought and felt was described perfectly. I couldn't stop listening! As I just turned 60, I wish I would have had this book decades ago. Everything described in this book was my experience and it was awful being the scapegoat. I finally see that I'm not the bad person. My parents were awful people. Every example was either them or me. And at 60, I'm in therapy to try and undo the damage done to me. It's good to know It wasn't me, but I've got a long road ahead. If only they had been decent, I could have become something great. God only knows what I couldve become. Anything in life but the sorry scapegoat would have been amazing. Unfortunately I had sick violent Borderline/Narcissistic mother and FULL ON Narcissistic Father. And I hate them. They are truly evil. I'm glad the book shows who they really are.

Story
Depravity, redemption, terror, and spiritual deliverance abound in this physically and psychologically complex memoir from the front man of the pioneer punk band True Sounds of Liberty (TSOL). Spanning the extremes between hard-core punk memoir and handbook for recovery and survival, this narrative documents a youth rebellion that changed the world and offered life lessons rooted in 1980s punk culture.

Always a storyteller. I knew him back then, and he's still a lying narcissist to this day. Just 3x the size. Never worked a day in his life, let his groupies do that for him. Got this for free w a credit. I'd never buy it. He's never been honest, and this is typical exaggerated BS. Truth told, he turned to AA not for help with any addiction, but for an audience (all narcissists need one) as those of us who knew him well never saw him party much. ( But I will say, he was soo handsome!) Yet, when AA took off in the 90s, so did his imagination, lies, and stories. I was bored with this by chapter 3. Love's to hear himself talk - and lie. Always has. He does both well.
