The reader is trying too hard
Reviewed: 12-04-24
The stories are pretty good. I was surprised usually anthologies are not the best places to find horror, literature, especially given that I’ve never heard of any of these authors before. The reader tried really hard to make it fun but in the end it just sounds fake. It also doesn’t help that the voice actor only has three or four different voices to choose from and with only short breaks between stories. It feels like one continuous story that makes zero sense and keeps jumping around. I would recommend the physical book, but probably not the best choice to be an audiobook.

Story
Straitlaced Evelyn and reformed bad boy Marco might make an unlikely pair, but the two lovebirds couldn’t be more head over heels for each other. Sure, they’ve had some missed calls along the way, but all that’s in the past. They’ve got their sights set on forever, and the next stop is a walk down the aisle in front of their friends and family. It’s the big day, and everyone’s gathered to watch Marco and Evelyn say "I do". Everyone except Evelyn that is. Is the bride running late or running? The surprising answer might just be in their voicemails.

VERY VERY ENJOYABLE

These idiots deserve unhappiness

The dialogue was stunted and wooden, unnatural and fake. The characters are infuriating stereotypes or milquetoast boring. The narration/performance rises above the content. I got this book for free and I want a refund of the last two hours of my life.

Abridgement not successful

Abridged version- missing too much from the book
Reviewed: 11-01-19
This version was abridged and left out multiple key chapters and scenes. I used a credit for it and still felt like I only got a quarter of a book.

Story
People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

A fun read, albeit absurd
Reviewed: 04-18-19
If you’re a fan of Christopher Moore’s other works, this will fit perfectly in your collection.
The audiobook performer is alright, but doesn’t have a lot of variety in their voice (lily and Ray often sound like the same character).
And the music interludes between chapters were very annoying.
