Story
Most people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. Most people think it’s just a depiction of the sea. But Louisa, an artist herself, knows otherwise and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures. Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their difficult home lives by spending their days laughing and telling stories out on a pier.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Trainwreck

Full disclosure: I didn’t finish this book. I’m giving it two stars because the writing style is engaging and holds the reader’s attention. However, the way r*pe is glorified is a major issue for me. I’m not a prude. However, I’ve been r*ed, and I can tell you firsthand that it’s not some thrilling experience. It’s horrifying. There’s a big difference between having a r*pe fantasy and surviving an actual assault, and the author fails to recognize that very serious distinction.
On a different note, I also wish the author had done a bit more research on firearms. She repeatedly uses the term "clip" when she should have said "magazine." A clip loads ammunition into a magazine, while a magazine stores and feeds the ammunition into the firearm.
Lastly, the book incorrectly suggests that videos can easily be streamed from the dark web. In reality, TOR is very slow, and most dark web sites aren’t designed for video streaming. Bandwidth is limited, and connections are often unstable, making streaming almost impossible.

Maddy, one of the main characters, got increasingly more and more and more annoying. She constantly put others in danger and the fact that she, a 19-YO child, knew what was best for everyone was maddening. Especially considering there were Marine men around.

I was raised in Albuquerque and excited for the book. The first red flag was the reference to OCD being someone who likes things clean and neat. For the love of God, type-A personality is NOT OCD. Add in the ridiculous dialogue and need for constant coffee and I couldn't handle any more. Narrator was not great either.
