About this listen

An enthralling and inventive thriller, only on Audible

Thirteen-year-old Emily Poe has been given the opportunity of a lifetime: A chance to attend the exclusive Audyn School in Manhattan. But to win the scholarship, she has to pass a test like nothing she’s ever experienced before: A nearly bare room, a set of strange clues, a locked door. And a mysterious organization - the Leopold Foundation - that’s watching her every move.

But the real test has just begun. Despite the strange circumstances - in a new house, at a new school - Emily instantly bonds with fellow scholarship winner Alice Wray.

And then Alice goes missing.

Chronicling every surprising twist and turn of her search through her own private video diary, Emily sets out to find the truth behind Alice’s disappearance. Soon she’s drawn deep into the inner circle of the Audyn School’s elite, the Nobility, who each have secrets of their own. As clues and lies mount, Emily must sort truth from fiction to solve the Mystery of Alice before it’s too late.

Great Acting!

It was by far the best acting I've heard so far on Audible.

The story fall short, but still let me hanging.

Truly original

I had so much fun with this book. The story was so well written and the performances were top notch. Loved the humor towards the end bringing audible into the story. Thank you, so much, for this. It was a special gift.

Somewhat irritating main character

Emily is supposed to be super smart but she’s surprisingly slow to pick up on things. I kept reminding myself she was only supposed to be 13. And perhaps she just preferred to take her time explaining how she reached a conclusion, thereby falsely inflating the amount of time it seems it took her to reach it.

I also found the Emily Dictionary particularly annoying - especially since some of the new words have definitions that actually already have a word with that same meaning. Then again, I doubt I’m the target audience for this book and perhaps a preteen reader would be less annoyed.

Crooked teen story

I compare the story to that of any teenager scary films. OK listen for a long car trip.

A masterpiece of intrigue.

Lee Bacon has written a really intricate finely woven plot line with some well developed characters. The story is actually credible given the characters. The twists and spins In the storyline show the world of a middle school girl who is put in an improbable compromising situation. The concept of the video diary tells the story. A wonderful free offering from Audible. And the narration and vocal inflections of various characters added to the enjoyment. Bravo, well done!
