there seems to be a never ending supply of serial killers in this series. how big is Newcastle? they didn't actually cover the title story, it's just a side issue. the character's are interesting but it's just not believable.

VERY Boring!

I am not sure how a supposed adventure syory can manage to be so boring, but this one manages it. There is nothing here but some pretentious prattle but not much more. It onky virtues were that it was free and short.

Story
Confined to a hospital bed, Scotland Yard's Inspector Alan Grant is bored. To divert his attention from his pain, a friend brings him pictures of faces. He becomes engrossed with the portrait of Richard III. How is it possible that such a sensitive-appearing soul could have been portrayed as the odious villain, the Wicked Uncle of history, responsible for the murder of his young nephews, heirs to the British throne, in order to secure the line of succession for himself?

Students are spooked at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts, and Lily is called in to search for possible paranormal activity. In return she's been promised a trunkful of Victorian-era clothes recently discovered in a school storage closet. But Lily finds something else: the body of a wealthy patron of the school. In between running the store and seeing her new boyfriend, Max - a "mythbuster" who is uncomfortable with her witchcraft - she uses her sleuthing skills to try to solve the murder. Soon Lily senses something from the school's vintage clothes, but it's not the smell of mothballs - it's the unmistakable aura of evil intent.

I found it ready difficult to follow this audio book becuase of the droning voice of the narrator. I've listened to books she narrated before and it wasn't bad but here it is very distracting. She put me to sleep.

The dragon bone chair and its sequels got me hooked on epic fantasy and I was very happy to see them come to audio. I was disappointed in this story. it may be important to segway between the two trilogies but in its self it is uninsired. If you like to read about battles for their own sake you may enjoy it but there is little else here. I found myself thinking- who cares?

If you like a good puzzle that also has heart this is one of the best. Ian Carmichael is of course superb as ever and so is the rest of the cast. A brilliant performance.

I loved all of kate mortons books i read so far with the secret keeper being my favorite. this on seemed promising but was ultimetley very disappointing. The story is imaginative but highly implausible. it is much too long for the content , attempting to convince through atmosphere but there is just one set of improbable occurrences after another.
SPOILER ALERT
it is possible that any of these would happen, though not likely and for all of them to happen....(?)
a women lost in the country just happens to stumble on the castle where her mom was evacuated during the war 50 years earlier.
she knows nothing about her mom's experience because not only was a letter from the castle to her mother got lost but it was found 50 years later. i found the whole mystery aound that letter extreemly contrived but the mom's behaviour is much less unlikely than the rest...
A nightmarish occurrence would certainly give a young child nightmares but it is unlikely that such nightmare would make her unable to live in another place except the place that gave her nightmare.
a girl who is given to blackouts after traumatic events happens to aid a woman who successfully gives birth (not clear why that would be so traumatic for her) getting blood on herself then blanks out. ok maybe, but for this to happen just as her boyfriend is attacked and killed?
the boyfriend, a schoolteacher, does not know that the girl's father wrote a very famous children's book about a mud man who climbs the walls of a castle. or if he does, he doesn't realize it would be a bad idea to climb the actual castle walls while covered in mud?
who does that anyway? trying to fix a shutter by climbing the wall of a castle in pouring rain? before even making his presence there known, in the middle of a war. of course the broken shutter just happens to be on the window to the room where the girl who had the nightmare was sleeping.
then her supposed level headed practical and law abiding sister just buries the boyfriend in the backyard because no one would have understood how the girls who grew up in the house of the author of the mud man would have accidentally killed someone climbing the walls of the castle in the middle of a storm (oh and in the middle of a war) covered in mud.
HONESTLY? Oh and she writes a letter in the boyfriends name to tell his family he ran away but they don't notice it's not his handwriting.

Most series lose momentum and significance as they get longer and longer. This series keeps getting better. What started as quite shallow, if funny, adventures has matured into a soulful story about significant issues beyond the supernatural adventures. and it hasn't lost its humor either.
