Story
Including stories from paradise and hard-won lessons in seamanship, Taleisin's Tales reflects back to the first miles Lin and Larry Pardey gained together on the second boat they built lovingly with teak carvel planking over sawn black locust frames. The book includes details from outfitting, provisioning, and final detailing during the early months Lin and Larry spent getting to know their new bluewater cruiser, as well as moments of melancholy as they let go of attachments to their first trusty boat.

The central scene of Michener's historical novel is that section of Maryland's Eastern shore, hardly more than 10 miles square. To this point come the founders of families that will dominate the story.

Simpson's mimister
Reviewed: 08-19-19
Can't get through this. By far the absolute WORST reading performance I've ever heard. I don't know how they got the minister from the Simpsons to read this but they did. It seems like they recorded each word individually then strung them together later. Every. Word. Has. A Period. Afer. It. Not only that, but the reader decided to end each word with an extra syllable. Any hard consonant has an extra -ah added to it. Dog is pronounced dog-ah. I think Michener deserves much better. I'm returning this book. Too bad, because I really would have enjoyed this book.

terrible overacting
Reviewed: 10-23-18
I've read 16 of the Aubry/Maturin series and was really looking forward to my first audio version with the 17th in the series. The performance by Patrick Tull was so bad I couldn't get past the second chapter. There is no difference in tone between the narration or ANY of the characters. You can't tell which character is talking so it is very hard to follow. I found out there is another version on Audible narrated by a different actor, so I'm returning this one and am going to give the other one a try.

The Given Day explores the crippling violence and irrepressible exuberance of a country at war with, and in the thrall of, itself. As Danny, Luther, and those around them struggle to define themselves in increasingly turbulent times, they gradually find family in one another and, together, ride a rising storm of hardship, deprivation, and hope that will change all their lives.

Micheal Boatman was amazing, his character voices we're right on. He did a wonderful job of illustrating the author's words. I highly recommend.
