Story
Author Thomas Erikson explains that there are four key behavior types that define how we interact with and perceive the people around us. Understanding someone’s pattern of behavior is the key to successful communication. Erikson breaks down the four kinds of behavior types - Reds who are dominant and commanding, Yellows who are social and optimistic, Greens who are laid-back and friendly, and Blues who are analytical and precise - and explains how to identify and interact with each type of person.

Like reading myers briggs personality types
Reviewed: 10-29-24
Too generic, not enough stories to show how to handle each type of people in common scenarios. The books spends more than half of the time describing each personality type when all can be summarized in 10 minutes. Not much to learn from the content. Wish I didn’t get this title. Most people bought the physical books probably because the cover looked fun.

Story
For years, companies have rewarded their most effective engineers with management positions. But treating management as the default path for an engineer with leadership ability doesn't serve the industry well—or the engineer. The staff engineer's path allows engineers to contribute at a high level as role models, driving big projects, determining technical strategy, and raising everyone's skills. This in-depth book shows you how to understand your role, manage your time, master strategic thinking, and set the standard for technical work.

Amazing collections of anecdotes from distinguished figures in the industry, along with general advice and examples on how to navigate different staff career paths. Much of the advice in this book could be helpful even for early-career engineers.
