About this listen

A runaway best seller in Sweden that has sold more than a million copies worldwide, Surrounded by Idiots shares a groundbreaking new method of understanding the people around you that will change how you interact with everyone from your coworkers to your spouse.

Author Thomas Erikson explains that there are four key behavior types that define how we interact with and perceive the people around us. Understanding someone’s pattern of behavior is the key to successful communication. Erikson breaks down the four kinds of behavior types - Reds who are dominant and commanding, Yellows who are social and optimistic, Greens who are laid-back and friendly, and Blues who are analytical and precise - and explains how to identify and interact with each type of person. Instead of being bogged down with overly technical categorizations, the simple four-color system allows you to speedily identify a friend or coworker and adjust how you speak and share with them.

Surrounded by Idiots is full of practical information for interacting with people based on their color, including the strengths and weaknesses of all the profiles, how to give positive and negative feedback to each, and the best way to word an email when writing to someone with a different profile.

Might have missed something

After listening to the entire book, multiple times, my husband and I have concluded that you might be missing a color. Black. It absorbs the other colors. It is the Chameleon. We have seen many in our lives who conform to the behaviors of each color as well as adjust to each color. They don’t identify with any particular behavior. They are totally, basically, color-less. They become what they think others want them to be. We, think they “know” us, but they really don’t. Are we missing something? I would love to hear your thoughts: amy@amycuny.com. I am a basically a “red” and my husband, a “yellow”.

Perplexed

it was an easy read, but I feel perplexed.I found myself in 3 behaviour groups , but they still felt lacking many aspects of my behaviour. on one hand i didn't like the way people were put in a box , and complex characters were oversimplified, on the other hand it made me see clearer into some friend relationships, why they don't work and how I should react to them...

Worth the read to learn more about people!

I've heard of similar ways to explain behavior before, but this was a little different. Still, it was pretty accurate, and I could see people I knew in each of the colors. Definitely would recommend if you are looking to improve work relationships.

Simply amazing.

I first have to give props to the narrator, could listen to David till the end of time. Very fun book, useful for sure. Some concepts are oversimplified, but they are hillarious. Loved every chapter. I would recommend this to every single person. I will be listening to the whole "Surrounded by" series now.

Can people change

An enjoyable listen but I don’t like the British accent of the narrator. I am new to this method and would’ve liked more coverage of the combo personalities. My husband, a very red individual, of 48 years died a few years ago and I am in a funk trying to get beyond it. I feel that I have changed so much. For the last few years of his life I worked hard to help him get better but he died anyway. So I have felt like a failure. The different personalities have been an eye opener. Very interesting.
