Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

It’s the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict when someone will die, or is it just an elaborate hoax? Orion Pagan has waited years for someone to tell him that he’s going to die. He has a serious heart condition, and he signed up for Death-Cast so he could know what’s coming. Valentino Prince is restarting his life in New York. He has a long and promising future ahead and he only registered for Death-Cast after his twin sister nearly died in a car accident.

Main Characters’ Arcs Fell Flat
Reviewed: 10-17-22
When I first read the sequel, I instantly fell in love with the main characters. I was invested in their story and found it easy to relate to them. However, I struggled to relate to the characters in THIS book.
Their hopes to ‘make it big’ in writing and modeling by living in New York sounded cliche and naive to me. The characters’ narrations aggrandized their desires to succeed in these over-saturated industries without addressing the high risk of failure. To me, this made the characters feel immature, making many of their other decisions, such as having sex with one another, also seem childish and impulsive. This problem was perpetuated by the characters’ fixation with each other’s appearances and the excitement of having a boyfriend for the first time. Ultimately, the connection the characters felt to one another seemed more like superficial teenage infatuation than actual love.
On top of this, I was frustrated at the focus on external conflicts as opposed to internal conflict. The intense emotions of overcoming homophobia fell flat for me. It seemed as though the characters had already made every important decision before the beginning of the book;
To me, it didn’t matter when Valentino called his parents to speak his mind because he had already moved out and chosen to not prioritize their opinions of him. Neither did it matter when Orion received Valentino’s heart because there wasn’t any question as to what it would mean for their relationship or whether the decision would be made.

Almost no story advancement. Feels like a wasted book. A couple of minor characters die. Something semi-interesting happens in the last few sentences of the final chapter, otherwise the book is a dud.

I was planning to read this book over the course of a week, but I couldn’t put it down, and ended up reading it in a single day. There is so much page turning suspense. I cried harder than I’ve cried at any other book. Absolutely beautiful.
I don’t have the words to describe how much I hate the ending.

Excellent, if you enjoy deep, philosophical writing
Reviewed: 08-14-19
While it does have a bit of action, like Xenocide, Children of the Mind is a philosophical exploration of questions at the center of human existence. Are we the sum of our memories, or is there more to it? Is there more to human bonding than just chemicals? Card has fun with Faster than Light Travel, using it both for defense and offense. This series is truly a masterpiece for those who can get through it and understand what Card is doing. If you are looking for easy entertainment, this might not be the best choice. This book will be much more enjoyable for those who like to stop and really think about the implications and ramifications of different ideas and decisions the characters encounter.

Story
Xenocide is the third installment of the Ender series. On Lusitania, Ender found a world where humans and pequeninos and the Hive Queen could all live together; where three very different intelligent species could find common ground at last. Or so he thought. But Lusitania also harbors the descolada, a virus which kills all humans it infects, but which the pequeninos require in order to transform into adults.

This book is not for everybody. Most will not understand it. They will be lost in the philosophic arguments and will be bored by the apparent lack of action. However, if you like philosophic discussions about the nature of reality, what it means to be human, what is sentience, what is intelligence and other deep questions, this novel is one of the best books ever written. The performance is not too shabby either.

Story
Sarai was a child of ten years, wise for her age but not yet a woman, when she first met Abram. He appeared before her in her father's house, filthy from the desert, tired and thirsty. But as the dirt of travel was washed from his body, the sight of him filled her heart. And when Abram promises Sarai to return in ten years to take her for his wife, her fate was sealed. Abram kept his promise, and Sarai kept hers. They were wed, and so joined the royal house of Ur with the high priesthood of the Hebrews. So began a lifetime of great joy together,
