A full cast performance is a trial to judge
Reviewed: 07-19-20
Some of the performers were excellent, some were less enjoyable. The voice of Dane was the most grating and she was the protagonist. It tool a lot of getting used to, and I would prefer a single narrator, but that’s a personal preference. Objectively speaking the story itself is well enough and most of the performances were acceptable.

Brilliant, sweet and life changing, whether you’re a fan or not!
Reviewed: 05-15-20
Although I am biased, (FELICIA DAY ROCKS) this book really surprised me! I mean yes, I did expect it to be very quirky and funny, and it totally delivered! But what I was not expecting was the realness, the vulnerability, the self care talk, and the power boost inspiration to follow my own dreams (and never down talk myself, and never discount my mental health) . I was vastly entertained, deeply touched and profoundly moved & inspired.
(I may also have also developed an incandescent fury, nay malicious violence, -rather than my former mild annoyance-towards internet trolls and their life threatening ways towards female gamers, celebs, and Miss Day specifically.)
This book, and Felicia Day’s performance reading her own delicious words, shares a mental shelf in my psyche with my other favorites (including, but not limited to Lord of the Rings) now and FOREVER.

Story
1929: Girls are going missing in Melbourne. Little, pretty golden-haired girls. And not just pretty. Three of them are pregnant, poor girls from the harsh confines of the Magdalene Laundry. People are getting nervous. Polly Kettle, a pushy, self-important Girl Reporter with ambition and no sense of self-preservation, decides to investigate - and promptly goes missing herself. It's time for Phryne and Dot to put a stop to this and find Polly Kettle before something quite irreparable happens to all of them. It's all piracy and dark cellars, convents and plots, murder and mystery...and Phryne finally finds out if it's true that blondes have more fun.

Story
At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle. How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.

Not only did this book teach me a lot about a healthy successful romantic relationship, but I also got to learn a lot about two of my very favorite entertainers, and their very different upbringings. Absolutely splendid, if meandering, totally hilarious, satisfyingly articulate, entertaining ride!

Story
It's Christmas at St Mary's and time for the traditional illicit jump. Except this one is perfectly legal. It's Major Guthrie's last jump. To the Battle of Bannockburn, no less. An important moment in history for two nations - one that warrants everyone's full attention. But Max soon finds herself grappling with a near-lethal game of pooh sticks, another avian incursion and two turbulent teenagers intent on piloting their own illegal jump. And that's all before they even get near 14th-century Scotland. For this is St Mary's, and nothing is ever simple.

A bit meandering and tense, not the fun romp as the usual Christmas story, and very much lacking in wrapping up the Markum story it started with, but enjoyable enough.

Seconded to the Time Police to join in the hunt for the renegade Clive Ronan, Max is a long way from St Mary's. But life in the future does have its plus points - although not for long. What a fantastic ride! But the last 20 minutes gave me such a punch to the gut, so much anxiety, depression and rage (what? I get caught up in the characters!) I was swearing to to listen to a single book more in this series!
But....the last 5 minutes redeemed (almost) the devastating betrayal I had just suffered and I may yet be willing to read a sequel.

Kerry Greenwood delivers again! I enjoyed the intimate and educational glimpses into world war one Paris, they were thoughtful, poignant, beautiful, and heart wrenching. I enjoyed imagining what kind of research was necessary to bring all of that so vibrantly to life. And Miss Stephanie Daniel‘s performance enriched every nuanced phrase.
Ps. I learn new vocabulary with almost every book, and I can’t tell you how satisfying that is to my English major’s soul!

Brilliant performance as usual by the amazing Zara Ramm!
*Spoiler Alert
I am pretty fatigued of the old “Ronin showing up unexpectedly, kidnapping Max, ruining everything, and inexplicably getting away again.” formula.
But
the journey is a joy as usual:
Adventure! History! Suspense! Survival! Manipulation! Devastation! Triumph! And lots of fantastic humor! (My favorite) Max has such a well developed voice! I’m a great fan of the characters and the way the stories unfold.
It’s a ride!
