About this listen

In the tradition of #Girlboss and Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, a funny, quirky, and inspiring memoir from online entertainment mogul, actress, and "queen of the geeks" Felicia Day about her unusual upbringing, her rise to Internet stardom, and embracing her individuality to find success in Hollywood.

The Internet isn't all cat videos - almost.

There's also Felicia Day - violinist, filmmaker, Internet entrepreneur, compulsive gamer, hoagie specialist, and former lonely homeschooled girl who overcame her isolated childhood to become the ruler of a new world - or at least the world of Internet-geek fame and Goodreads book clubs.

Growing up in the South, where she was homeschooled for hippie reasons, Felicia moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and was immediately typecast as a crazy cat-lady secretary. But Felicia's misadventures in Hollywood led her to produce her own web series, own her own production company, and become an instant Internet star.

Felcia's shortish life and her rags-to-riches rise to Internet fame launched her career as one of the most influential creators in new media. Now Felicia's strange life is filled with thoughts on creativity, video games, and a dash of mild feminist activism - just like her memoir.

Hilarious and inspirational, You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is proof that everyone should embrace what makes them different and be brave enough to share it with the world, because anything is possible now - even for a digital misfit.

I first discovered Felicia on Buffy but became a fan because of The Guild. She is charmingly adorably awkward in the endearing way and that comes through in both her writing and performance. As a fellow geeky introvert that has always struggled making friends I greatly identified with her stories and feel inspired to follow some of my own passion (damn the haters!). Very much looking forward to her next book.

Entertaining charming and inspiring.

Great listen, but now my husband is hell bent on homeschooling the girls so they will be just like Felicia. Trust me, that won't end well.

Glad that Felicia narrated it herself ; it really added a lot. I highly recommend the book to most people. Except those #gamergate douchbags. They can suck it.

Fun and Inspiration in a geeky way

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In the World of fandom Felicia Day is a goddess. But in the non-nerd world not so much, so the average listener may want to take the book in small doses.

However, I loved the book. A fascinating and funny tale of geek-girl-gamer who has had an amazingly involved life for such a young person. (Thirty-something as of review)

Recommended if you're a fanboy or a fangirl or for your nerd son/daughter/friend/spouse/partner or your bewildered parent who doesn't understand why you're 'so weird'.

HIGHLY recommended if your a Felicia Day fan.

Loved the book but strictly for the nerd crowd.

I got this book on a whim. I knew vaguely who Felicia Day was but had no idea what fun it would be to hear her spin tails of hilarity and heartbreak. truly a great find. I LOVED this book! :-)

a fantastically told story of a fascinating person

she does an amazing job explaining her childhood, and all the challenges she faced, and trying to relate to other gamers, and how just having people to speak of your nerdoms with is just a great feeling and how lately the gaming community is more divided, plus she's just. really awesome

Felicia day rocks

I'm sorry to be late to this party, but finally binging this memoir put so much of my fandom into perspective. Understanding Felicia's formative years, unusual life, and behind the scenes humanity added a completely new dimension to my relationship with her work.

It would be no overstatement to say that her media presence helped to inspire and steer my path at key moments in my life.

I binged this in a single day. A truly amazing experience.

A beautiful look at an amazing human.

I never listen to biographies, any of them, however I first saw her on Buffy but didn't realize it at the time, it wasn't until I saw her on Supernatural that I just loved her character, and am still ticked they killed her off even if they did bring her back this last season for a cameo, that inspired me to give the book a shot. I was not dissapointed, she is just as funny, sweet and enjoyable as she was in that show and maybe even inspired me to build that webpage I have always wanted to do. I am keeping the book on my device so I can listen again. Good job!

Wonderful book
