Very little to dislike. Coban once again has hit the target. His writing and weaving of a story with twists and turns is first rate. The reader is excellent too.

All of Jamie’s skills are tested as she must overcome the powerful drug warlord El Mata, his ruthless band of heavily armed killers, and a hurricane that’s bearing down on the Caribbean islands.

Predictable story and conclusion
Reviewed: 03-05-24
The notion of the CIA couple and their work catching “the bad guy” is one I enjoy. In my opinion the writing needs to become more mature. At the end of this book we read (hear) about what is next for them. I will likely get the next book in the series and decide whether to buy more after that.
It was too obvious early on the step dad was dirty in the ransom situation. Parachuting into the eye of the hurricane was a stretch but was ok. Toler interjects virginity and saving herself for marriage into the stories too. I am not sure what that adds however it is the authors prerogative and it must be a message she finds important to convey to the reader.

John Smith has a special gift that seems more like a curse: He can access other people's thoughts. He hears the songs stuck in their heads, their most private traumas and fears, the painful memories they can't let go. The CIA honed his skills until he was one of their most powerful operatives, but Smith fled the agency and now works as a private consultant, trying to keep the dark potential of his gift in check - and himself out of trouble.

In the first book of the international number-one best-selling spy series, Jamie goes to Belarus. A busload of 300 girls goes missing and she's the only one who can save them. Might have had expectations too high
Reviewed: 10-15-23
I struggled through much of this book. At first I felt as though too much time was spent attempting to develop characters and the attraction between the 2 protagonists, given their short history, seemed to be a stretch for me. The pieces in the middle about the “yachts speeding up” was silly. A yacht might “speed up” from 16 knots to maybe 23. Also the convo about the champagne being fro France, that is the ONLY place that can produce “champagne”, sigh. Almost insulting to the reader (or listener) mayIn the end the neatly wrapped bow of success was great for those who require a completely happy ending was really, for anyone who has traveled to some of the places mentioned, unrealistic. The teaser for the next book of them pretending to be married seems a little Cinderellaish. I am contemplating whether to get the next in the series or just out this one to bed.

I liked this a lot. The scenes where Gentry is grabbing a yacht moving through the water while swimming up to it is really not possible…like unless a superhero is involved . The the narration… for future reference, the saloon of a boat is pronounced sa lon not saloon as in another name for a Wild West bar.

Story
Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission, they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. He isn't one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.

I enjoy listening to this series a lot. The reference to the Goon Squad having a headache from altitude sickness is not accurate. It requires someone to be at altitude for at least 48 hours before that occurs. Nitpicking? Yes without a doubt, however for future novels…

Ex-CIA master assassin Court Gentry has always prided himself on his ability to disappear at will, to fly below the radar and exist in the shadows - to survive as the near-mythical Gray Man. But when he takes revenge upon a former employer who betrayed him, he exposes himself to something he’s never had to face before. A killer who is just like him. Code-named Dead Eye, Russell Whitlock is a graduate of the same ultra-secret Autonomous Asset Program that trained and once controlled Gentry.
