Story
Cathy Andrews wants it all: a husband, a baby, and a little house in her charming small town of Cadillac, Texas. With all that she’s gone through in her past, she’s earned her happily ever after and is more than ready to put down some long-term roots. The trouble is, she’s no longer sure the reliable man she agreed to marry is the right guy. Sure, he’s got great teeth and hair, but he’s also got dreams of being a politician—and Cathy doesn’t know if she’s ready to be just arm candy to a man who doesn’t stir her blood.

Don’t give up on it

It was a struggle for me in the beginning and I was just about ready to give up on it, when it finally turned. Overall not my favorite Carolyn Brown, but much better than I expected after the first few chapters.

Story
The first time I laid eyes on Henley James, I was mesmerized. The chemistry between us was like nothing I’d ever felt. Impeccable suit, dimpled smile. He was charming and gorgeous, sophisticated and suave. He gave me his business card and asked me to call. His dating game was strong; I was gone from his first smile. I’d love to tell you our date was a raging success, but it wasn’t. Far from it. I decided right there on that day that Henley James and I would forever be mortal enemies; I would never think of him again.

Hard no
Reviewed: 11-05-23
I normally enjoy TL Swan’s books, but this one is a hard no. I suffered through the first 4 hours hoping it would improve. I skipped several hours and it was the same. The main characters have issues and neither one is likable. I’m hesitant in trying anymore in the series based on this first book. 5 minutes left and there is no resolution to the story, so add a rushed ending.

Story
They’re coworkers, friends, and confidants, but Peter Marshal has always pined for a little something more with Noelle Walters. As a widow and a single mom, Noelle prefers to play it safe, and falling for Peter was never part of the plan. Then again, neither of their plans accounted for the well-meaning but meddling actions of Peter’s sister, who offers him up as their town’s most eligible bachelor in the local moms’ Facebook group. He’s none the wiser about the source of this sudden surge in attention, but he only has eyes for Noelle.

I hate to leave a bad review, but I couldn’t get past the mean girl mentality of the Facebook Mom’s group, especially Peter’s sister. It ruined what could have been a good story.

Story
I’m wealthy, powerful, and able to get any woman I want. So why do I feel so empty inside? In search of a deeper me, I take a sabbatical from my privileged life. One year of backpacking around Europe: a new identity, no contacts, and no money. Not a bad plan, I think. Until I get there. A crowded hostel room, body odor, and beer bongs—there are no words for the fresh hell I’ve landed in. But amid the chaos, I meet my new roommate, Hayden Whitmore. She sleeps in the bed opposite me, and I openly admit to staring at her more than I sleep.

This one was painful
Reviewed: 02-23-23
The other Miles brothers had some redeeming qualities and became very likable in the end, but Christopher did not. I almost gave up on it numerous times, but kept waiting for him to give up his selfish, overbearing ways. It was difficult for me to listen to Hayden apologize when she was not in the wrong I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t.
There was side story that kept me listening and the narrators was great.

Story
Riverbend, Texas, doesn’t look like the crossroads of anywhere. But for four high school besties reuniting after twenty years, it’s a place to unpack a lot of baggage. Risa’s headed for divorce, Mary Nell’s been kicked to the curb by her leech of a boyfriend, and Haley was just blindsided by a shocking family secret. But restless army veteran Jessica Callaway, looking to plant roots, has an idea: corral her fellow former cheerleaders and renovate an abandoned church smack-dab in the middle of three dry counties into a bar.

A rough one to finish
Reviewed: 05-28-22
I have listened to several of Cami’s books and enjoyed them. This one was painful, very repetitive, especially with the heroine’s whining about being hurt. Give Colt a chance to give his version of the situation and then if you don’t like it, kick him to the curb. Colt wasn’t without fault and I don’t appreciate a male pushing when they’ve been told no.

…it ended up hitting me in the feels! I love a full cast audiobook and this one was good. I prefer a longer book to flesh out the characters, but this did a decent job in under two hours. It certainly was worth the time invested even it not very plausible.

The story itself was well written and shows a family in crisis after the loss of their mother/wife and how they find their way back as a family. It was very difficult to tell the difference between characters with the narration and therefore, hard to follow at times.

Rough start
Reviewed: 11-21-21
The heroine wasn’t likable to start. Yes, she had some heartache, but that doesn’t excuse being out and rude and mean. I stopped listening and just about returned it, instead I skipped a chapter and finally made it past her ugliness. The story improved and had a good ending.
I am not clear how this could be considered a series, no story lines were remotely connected. They were good books, but very different and separate.
