About this listen

In this fairy tale with a sexy twist, she’s a penniless San Francisco seamstress. He’s the king of Italian couture. Who’s got designs on whom?

Boutique owner Kimber DiSanto has seen better days. She’s been dumped at the altar by Prince Charmless, her business went up in flames (literally), and now she’s stuck in Florence, Italy, with an ice-queen stepmother, to try to save her late father’s failing dress shop. Only one thing could make it worse: another man in her life. The arrogant Italian fashion tycoon offering to buy her father’s shop is as rich as he is sexy, and their attraction is off the charts. But Kimber’s not about to get burned again.

Women don’t say no to Matteo Moretti - and certainly not with Kimber’s stinging precision. With all the heat and fury sparking between them, Matteo can’t resist baiting the gorgeous American. His plan? Win her over one scorching kiss at a time.

Kimber tells herself it’s all just a game. That her broken heart isn’t in danger, and that Matteo’s touch does not make her Lady Land dance with joy. But sometimes it takes the fieriest of enemies to turn a fantasy into a real-life romance.

A Modern Day Take on Cinderella!

Geissinger’s Slow Burn series has been a fantastic series intro as my first reads of her work…I’ve loved every one! Ache for You, the third book, was a phenomenal read with stellar voice performances. I’ve always enjoyed Brian Pallino’s work, but his performance as the Italian hero was swoon worthy!

Largely set in Italy among the couture fashion world, Kimber, a native Italian who’s been raised in San Francisco is a seamstress at the lowest point in her life. She’s pursued by Matteo, THE couture Italian designer, a marquis, with an interesting familial connection to Kimber. Matteo and Kimber’s chemistry is instant, but so many things keep them at odds. But, in spite of it all, they do reach their HEA!

The Cinderella references are hilarious! I loved Kimber’s “step sisters” and laughed out loud as often as I swooned. Ache for You was totally entertaining and the pace was great! You won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful!!!!

Marvellous characters, each and every one of them, starting with Mateo and Kimber and all of the supporting characters as well!
I so enjoyed this audiobook!! It both warmed my heart and had me laughing out loud at the same time! Worth a credit and more.

love..

overall I thought it was pretty good I love the characters I really love the male narrator he did an amazing job definitely going to look out for his name. the only thing I had a problem with this book is that I felt like it constantly repeated itself in all honesty if they would have took out that much repeating it would be about at least an hour to an hour and a half. but I did enjoy the book made me laugh out loud

Just swallow that frog already!

“Winston Churchill’s hairy balls” That was fun!
You know how some romance series are formulaic? Where each book is so cookie cutter that you forget which characters go with which book? Not a problem here. The only thing the books in this series have in common is a vague connection with fairy tales (Cinderella here), enemies to lovers fireworks, and slow burns. Otherwise, they are fabulously fresh.

“I’m not a mouse; I’m a MFing lion!”
This book started out a bit rough for me, because Kimber is a biyatch of a pistol. But that’s part of Geissinger’s genius; she writes these fiery, flawed, funny MCs. And Kimber’s over-defensive, knee-jerk, shoot first mouth is understandable, what with the trauma of being jilted at the altar, losing her father, having her shop burned to the ground, and going broke at chapter 1… come to think of it, this isn’t just Grimm’s Fairy Tales… this is a bad country song … and it was awesome!

“The egg doesn’t chase the sperm”
Matteo is the perfect match for prickly, always assumes the worst, Kimber.
This a Mr. and Mrs. Deadpool romance, with hate-flirting and everything except yo momma burns (those are the only forbodden cut downs). He’s a smug, alpha marquis; she’s a murder obsessed gal with a super horny uterous.

“Oh no, did you fart in bed?”
Are there nitpicks? Sure. True to the series name, this is a sloowww burn, with nothing but kisses until almost 9 hours in. There’s a fair bit of redundant scenes (he appears all drool worthy in the doorway, a lot and she pictures strangling people, a lot, in fact she may be a budding serial killer). They could have avoided all the conflict by talking to each other. And, yes, the whole blackmail/ not saying what he’s gonna do with her sketchbook thing was eye-rolling even for a romance trope. Also, I had to speed up and slow down between narrators (and up the volume for him and lower it again for her, ugh, made me work for it!)

But, the good parts far outweighed the slight annoyances. I loved the humor, the fiery hate-flirting, and the great supporting cast (including gay friend Jenner, who thankfully wasn’t overly 80’s gay stereotypical). And the one liners, loved those too.

“It’s the hair, isn’t it?”

Love These Modern Fairytales With A Twist

Moretti might be my favorite Male character I have ever read. The voice actor on the audible version has the sexiest voice & his Italian accent is hot as hell.
As for the story, Geissinger's character development and world building are always excellent. This one I especially loved because of the heavy fashion references and descriptions. I also really appreciate that the author doesn't always stick to the cliche romance story tropes.
All of the Slow Burn books are clever, hot, and creative.

Hilarious. You will not be disappointed.

Hilarious, I love the banter in this book. I love how witty Kimber is. Kimber and Matteo love story is classic and I can certainly relate to her character. I love books that make me laugh and out of the 3 this has the most comedy I read. Classic I will recommend.

The best from the series

Kimber's life is going down hill... After being left at the altar, she learned that her dying father got remarried. And she now has a very cold step mother and two canines as step sisters... It also doesn't help that a hot Italian wouldn't give back her most precious thing... This is not your average Cinderella story!

I am in love with this book! I really like Kimber's fiesty attitude. I love her personality and she is such a strong woman. She is so funny too! There's just so many jokes and one liners here that are too funny! Mateo is awesome too! He's probably my fave hero from the series. He has this misunderstood guy thing going on that I really like.

I really don't want to share anything else cause it's so nice to just dive right in! I wouldn't really call this a slow burn, cause they have the hots for each other, but you'll definitely have moments where you just want them to get on already (that's the slow burn part), but it is soooo satisfying! They are so steamy and it's so great!

The narrators are amazing too! I like the lady narrator for sure! And the guy narrator definitely gets an A for his Italian accent!

This is pretty good stuff! And this is definitely my favorite out of the books in the series!
