Story
Glass Ferry, Kentucky, is bourbon country. Whiskey has been a way of life for generations, enabling families to provide and survive even in the darkest times. Flannery Butler's daddy, Beauregard "Honey Bee" Butler, entrusted her with his recipes before he passed on, swearing her to secrecy. But Flannery is harboring other secrets too, about her twin sister Patsy, older by eight minutes and pretty in a way Flannery knows she'll never be. Then comes the prom night when Patsy - wearing a yellow chiffon dress and the family pearls - disappears along with her date.

awful
Reviewed: 10-23-21
the narrator is so bad, I can't finish chapter 1. What happened? Heck if I know! I was too distracted by the awful narration. I loved two other books from the same author so this is very disappointing. I'm glad it was free, but I want my time back.

Story
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

loved this story. Well done all around.

The narrator was perfect for the character of Cussy Mary, aka Bluett. I loved the story and the characters. I also learned a lot about things I'd never heard of, such as the blue people and the pack horse library and Book women. The author did a good job weaving historical facts into a fictional story. To those reviewers who complained about the southern accent, Idk what they are talking about. I loathe false southern accents when poorly done and I wouldn't have even thought to call this a fake one. The narrator is awesome.

I'm only on chapter 3 and don't know if I can proceed. I think I got this for free; if I didn't I'll be getting my credit back. There are so many great narrators with an authentic southern drawl out there, and this isn't one. It would be better suited for children's stories or nursery rhymes.

I don't even know where to begin
Reviewed: 07-27-18
I couldn't even say if this is a good book or not, I was so distracted by the narration that I couldn't keep track of the story. Whoever is reading for Whitney should not narrate audible books anymore. I will not purchase any books that she narrates ever again. I'm sorry if that sounds rude but there it is, my honest review of this book that I have no clue what happened.

I feel like the whole book could have been summed up in three chapters. Thorough, yes, but very repetitive. I had to keep checking to make sure I didn't accidentally rewind it.
