Story
Beautiful Lady Emily dreams of the rapture of love and the joys of marriage. The youngest daughter of an English lord at war, she is shaken by the arrival of a mysterious stranger to her father's castle. Could this breathtaking man be Emily's yearned-for lover? Indeed, Draven de Montague, earl of Ravenswood, has come for Emily...but romance has nothing to do with it.

Worst Historical Romance to Date
Reviewed: 01-17-25
Could not finish, gave up at chapter 7. Completely unbelievable, and aside from throwing in a “aye”, “nay” or “my lady” every so often in deference to the time period, the characters behave in ways that I’ve never encountered in any other historical romance. It would have had more success with the same story line but set on a pre industrialized planet. Overall ridiculous.

He vows revenge against the rival MacDonald clan, though duty demands a handfast marriage to Isabel MacDonald-a bride he does not want and has no intention of keeping. Lachlan Maclean will do whatever it takes to protect his clan - even if it means abducting the most willful woman in the Highlands with the secret intention of wooing her for marriage. A leader possessing brute strength and an imposing command, Lachlan is unprepared for the beautiful spitfire Flora MacLeod, who jeopardizes his plans to save his clan and digs beneath his hard, chiseled exterior to expose a tenderness that may be his undoing.

Kept going through to chapter 13 and had to stop. The narrator sounds like a computer reading the story or an AI and it’s not good.
It’s too bad because the story is good. Can’t understand why authors put so much effort into writing a novel and seemingly little care into choosing audiobook narrators for their creations.

Story
The Earth lies in ruins in the aftermath of an extraterrestrial invasion, the land devastated by a desperate war with no winners between mankind and a race of vicious, intelligent creatures. The seas are drying up while the atmosphere corrodes and slowly cooks any life remaining on the now desolate rock. Food is scarce, trust even more so, and the only people left alive all have done horrific things to stay that way.

Story
Elaine is an orphan girl who has grown up in a world where magical ability brings power. Her limited talent was enough to ensure a magical training, but she's very inexperienced and was lucky to get a position working in the Great Library. Now, the Grand Sorcerer - the most powerful magician of them all - is dying, although initially that makes little difference to Elaine; she certainly doesn't have the power to compete for higher status in the Golden City. But all that changes when she triggers a magical trap....

Constantly wondered what the author was thinking re friendships, relationships and sex.
So bad. The conversations / relationships between characters are cringe worthy, unbelievable and pedantic. Instead of developing the story, the author regurgitates basic info.

Story
My master created me for his entertainment, leading adventurers to ruin. Betraying them at the last moment, just when their glorious victory was on hand. I have been found again by the newest member of a quartet of dungeon crawlers. Poor fool. This time will be no different. Or does it have to be? Maybe I don't need to spend eternity left in a deep, dark dungeon waiting to devour would-be heroes. Maybe, just maybe, I can take him over and use this new identity to leave and masquerade as an adventurer myself.

After finishing the 'He Who Fights With Monsters' series by Shirtaloon, narrated by Heath Miller, I tried, unsuccessfully, to find another quality litrpg. I ended up searching Heath Miller and found 'Armor' and could not be happier with my purchase. Excellent story and Mr. Miller sets a benchmark for audiobook narration. If only his performances were the norm for narrators..

Reviewed: 11-26-22
Gabrielle de Cuir voices the main character (woman) like a petulant teenager with emphysema. The only character voice that I enjoyed by her was the grandmother.
Stefan Rudnicki does an amazing job, as usual, I wish that he had been the only narrator because I did not enjoy Gabrielle de Cuir and she put me off entirely.
Story very good.
