Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

I did like it darker

Fully enjoyed every short story for my own reasons. I have to admit that "Two Talented Bastids", "Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream" and "The Fifth Step" were my favorites I've listened to them all a few times.
"Rattlesnakes" was enjoyable as it's a bit of a afterstory to "cujo" with its own conflicts but with ghost instead of a rabid dog.
Will probably listen to this book again in the future

great story but unneeded sound effects added
Reviewed: 12-25-24
Little Woman is a book I grew up with. this is my first time hearing the story on audio and I was dissapointed. not in the voice actors or the story. The sound effects felt unnecessary and distracting. specifically the crying children sound at every point where a baby/young child was mentioned, even if the child wasn't crying! This wasn't just a baby crying but the most high pitched "something is wrong with this child" cry. I almost turned it off but decided to just his the 30 second skip button to avoid it. There were often other sound effects added that just felt unneeded and overall I wish this audio was just the voice actors with a narrator.
The story overall was fun to listen to as it brought back memories of reading the book and watching the movie as a child. I'm forever in love with how wholesome the characters are, even at their worst.
Megs trial and tribulations of marriage felt different to explore now that I'm an adult with my own marriage. Jo turning down Laurie was something I found unforgivable but now I understand why she did.
Beth's fate will always bring a few tears.
Amy's growth from basically a child to an adult is enjoyable, especially after she gets married. this will be a story I will listen to again, just not this audio as I really did not like the added sounds

The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air—and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled.

long time fan of the eragon series, first time audiobook listener. murtagh has always been a favorite character of mine and I was thrilled to see where this story would take him.
great story, I don't think there was ever a boring moment! I know I've seen some reviews expression a desire for eragon, but this is not Eragons story!
10/10, if you're a fan of the Eragon series, you will love reading Murtagh.
