Story
A compelling, thought-provoking memoir about Nancy French's journey from her family's mountain roots to success as a ghostwriter, only to be rejected by her party, church, and community. Ghosted by New York Times bestselling author Nancy French is for all who were alienated by those closest to them and left spiritually and politically homeless.

a vulnerable and warm telling
Reviewed: 05-10-24
This is a vulnerable and warm telling of a life guided by God, tho at times from a distance. Nancy’s southern accent adds to her credibility as she captures southern culture and also exposes our national (& christian!) shame in covering up sexual abuse and supporting a predator as President. This is a compelling and entertaining read - I couldn’t put i down.

Profound read~ valuable

Kierkegaard is beautifully capable of telling stories you thought you knew and requiring a deeper plunge into the possibilities of individual human experience within them... I had to rewind several times to “get it”, partly due to audio format without the text - so of course I got the text alongside as well. That was helpful.
This is Walter Lowrie’s translation, from about 1940. It would be helpful if Audible included this information in Title Details when offering a work not originally written in English.
The reader is clear and precise. I appreciated his calm reading voice.

Story
Evangelical Christians are perhaps the most polarizing—and least understood—people living in America today. In his seminal new book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, journalist Tim Alberta, himself a practicing Christian and the son of an evangelical pastor, paints an expansive and profoundly troubling portrait of the American evangelical movement.

Important history still unfolding
Reviewed: 12-21-23
Tim Alberta has written a thorough study of what in the world has happened to evangelicals. They have fallen into heresy, he argues, in putting party over faith. In a few short years they have become known for an angry partisanship rather than a humble walk with Jesus. Jesus, we may recall, refused the political power that his own people thought he was there to help them reclaim.
It is in places a difficult, heart-rending, and even frightening read, and yet it is also marked by hope that comes through in the stories of those who are still trying to find and live the truth of the gospel.
Thank you, Tim Alberta!

The best American novel to emerge from World War I, A Farewell to Arms is the unforgettable story of an American ambulance driver on the Italian front and his passion for a beautiful English nurse.

Perfect reader for this book!

This is Hemingway’s first “bestseller” and it put him on the map - John Slattery is the perfect reader as he truly inhabits the character of Frederic Henry, plus all the other wonderful characters. It is a moving story of love, friendship, and chaos during wartime, and sadly still resonates. Excellent reading of this classic novel~

What a fantastic conclusion to the Space Trilogy - and indeed a timely read just now. Geoffrey Howard is a talented narrator - he inhabits each character using a wide range of voices and English dialects. I thoroughly enjoyed this reading.
And Lewis - what an incredible story teller. I LOVE his use of language and his many nods to history and literature, especially from his specialty with the Medievals.

Story
Once Donald Trump’s fiercest surrogate, closest confidant, and staunchest defender, Michael Cohen knows where the skeletons are buried. This is the most devastating business and political horror story of the century. As Trump’s lawyer and “fixer”, Cohen not only witnessed firsthand but was also an active participant in the inner workings of Trump’s business empire, political campaign, and presidential administration.

This provides important background to the deception and sham that the Donald Trump presidency is. I wish every voter could read it before November 3. Our republic and the rule of law is at stake. Please VOTE BIDEN.
My only critique on the performance is that the reader did not have a Long Island accent, which I anticipated, since it is Michael Cohen‘s story! 😀

"Ignorant boys killing each other," is just about all Nathan Coulter would tell his wife about the Battle of Okinawa in the spring of 1945. Life carried on for the community of Port William, Kentucky, as some boys returned from the war while the lives of others were mourned. In her seventies, Nathan's wife, Hannah, now has time to tell of the years since the war.

This book is a lovely portrait of a simpler life, but not a simple, carefree one. It is a life of hard work and deep love for a place and its people, the “membership” of Port William. Susan Denaker’s dialect and reading style is perfect for a woman from rural Kentucky like Hannah Coulter. This work refreshed and revived me during a difficult time.

I found that pages 76-78, the section entitled "Ivan Pavlov and the Instinct of Purpose," have been omitted from the Audible version. This book is an excellent resource for anyone working with trauma and recovery. The missing pages concerns me in terms of the reliability of Audible audiobooks..... and I love Audible!
