Story
He was promised a life of wandering his new home and having adventures, but things got out of hand pretty quickly. He met with kings and gods, fought interdimensional cults, and got in a knife fight with the guy who creates universes. He didn't win. What he'd never done was roam around, having nice, sensible adventures. He hadn't even seen the hometown of his friends, and that had been the first destination on his list.

Good but not great

I try and stay open minded as possible but more and more the author is inserting their political views (which is their right to do so) but it makes it a bit harder to enjoy what I originally liked about this series. Other than that this book felt mostly like filler.

Had to stop listening, the Author turned Tarquin into such a grovelling pathetic character it became tiring to listen too. The pronouns where a bit old after a while as well. I held on as long as I could. The story WAS pretty good but enough was enough.

the first book is what got me interested for a potential good series, the second book destroyed all of that. Sgt Jacks storyline is pointless(mostly just filler) and not a fan of the narrator. Ragnar has been turned into a punk, Axil Finn just runs off and does stupid crap over and over.

Not stoked on the grammar

I'll start out by saying the story line is darn good. What I'm having trouble with is the fact that the writer insists on calling a singular person they/them/their. I was truly confused at first but after all the pronouns and the fact that half of the characters are gay it dawned on me. I was raised to respect people's beliefs and the life they choose to live so I will but it doesn't mean I have to purchase anymore books.

It's basically one long mission without any real story progression. A bit too much Brody in this one to the point I became annoyed. I stopped listening with two hours left because I found myself drifting off way too much throughout the story because it didn't keep me engaged.

Reviewed: 07-20-23
First off as a Marine veteran hearing Marines called soldiers over and over drives me crazy, all it takes is the smallest fraction of research to know that. The lack of knowledge about how any of the military branches would operate is apparent in this book. I did enjoy some of the ideas in this book but others were just off putting. There are also many audio issues throughout where it starts to glitch making you think something is wrong with your listening device. The Narrator is ok? I've heard way worse so I don't want to discourage him from doing more books in the future and becoming better. Overall I stopped listening 3/4 through and probably won't get any other books in the series. I'm not going to ask for a refund though because it wasn't that bad just not for me.

I quite enjoyed this audible book, the story kept me interested the whole time. Maybe it's just me but I got a Dune type vibe from this story. The Narrator does an excellent job with the male characters voices but the female characters were very tough to listen too. I do look forward to the next book.

I have 2 hours left in the story but stopped listening. There is WAY too much inner dialogue going on which really drags out the story and caused me to start dozing off multiple times. I would recommend the writer to listen to some other authors like Jason Anspach to get a better idea of how a proper military organization should sound. This author had top brass sounding like idiots which really bummed me out, being combat veteran myself. I doubt I'll finish this book nor buy any others of this story line.
