Story
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Occultism Level 1: Explore Hidden Knowledge

Story
The word "occult" means that which is hidden. Occultism, consequently, is the science of hidden forces, and the art of subjecting such forces to human control. Here we will consider the data upon which occultism rests. The word carries with it an air of mystery, it is true; but all forces are mysterious to those who have not studied them; and what is mysterious to the ignorant is obvious to the learned. Yet in all nature, nothing can come permanently under this ban; for all mysteries may be solved. Thus the simplest conveniences of modern civilization are mysterious to the untutored savage. He...

What do you do when you feel like you’ve won the game of life? Share the secrets you’ve learned so everyone else can win too! At least, that’s what we decided to do. After all, we didn’t set out to win anything when we each took a chance on ourselves and followed our hearts. We both just knew there had to be something more than the unfulfilling lives we were living. We each took a step, and the universe rose up to meet us - taking us on a wild adventure up the mountain of success, health, fitness, happiness, love, fulfillment, and inner peace.

You pay to listen to this couple recite things like “you’re a magical flower” and other useless content. It’s more of them believing in positive thoughts yet they go on for hours about what the self, being and other things “are”. Hah, they’ve got Jung beat with this one :sigh:.
This work is not ambitious, it’s foolish, and to think these two will enlighten you as to what the “source” is will rob you of $15. You are the source, the everything that’s going on & You, not these peoples egos or fluffy sentiments, will change your life. It’s so simple a book can’t be written about it, yet there’s a new-age self help anecdote for everything we encounter in western society. Skip this and dedicate time to going outside, it’s much more important than this ever will be.

But what was really going on in the inner sanctum of the White House during these calamitous events? What did the president and his dwindling cadre of loyalists actually believe? Drags on and on in a nervous tone that will provoke anxiety. Repetitive and no story line. I liked his previous works but this was just for the $ and it shows in the lack of any effort to grab the reader. Instead, it’s a retold account of what we all have heard by now in a very, very boring manner with only one chapter worth even listening to. On the anniversary of this event I was hoping for someone to hold this defeated enemy of democracy accountable, but it reads like any headline news. Save your time to do anything else with your life.

Aside from making obvious assumptions, there’s no new thinking here. The story, although a nice contrast to May in The Circle, lacks substance. The pull isn’t there to see what happens next as this predictable novel drags on, until an abrupt and admittedly decent ending.
Narration has so many “____ said” breaks that it must add an hour or so, not an audiobook but a transcription. Kind of a bit let down for the hype.
